Good and trustworthy free web hosts thread

Lain Iwakura · 2017-08-05 16:53
Let's have a thread to post and inform ouselves about good free web hosting services. I'm looking into creating a website and taking freebies into consideration. Among the ones i'm already familiar with, there are Github Pages, Neocities, and Wordpress hosting. Is there anything as good or even better that i'd missed out out there? I'm open to recommendations. I perfer static sites, so scripting support isn't a must, just HTML and CSS would suffice. Bonus points for TLS and database support though. No need to have plenty of disk space too, just should be stable and reliable.

https://beakerbrowser.com lets you create a website on the Dat protocol that can also very easily be https accessible through their other service https://hashbase.io which also works as a permanent seed for your Dat site. (Dat pretty much lets you host websites as a torrent)

I've been using surge.sh and it's been really great. Single command deploy from command line. I love it.

sourceforge also offers wiki and project homepages with custom html.

I've been using Neocities for about a year now and I really like it. It is really good for a small, personal site and the community is cool. I've only had the site go down once.

GitHub pages lets you have one website per user account (and I believe one website per project). If you you have philosophical or political differences with github, GitLab offers the same service. Byet.host lets you create a free mysql/php site, however they block non-javascript users from your page. geocities.ws has archives of former geocities sites and will let you sign up and revive your old website for free. I've never used this service and can't tell you if is any good.

Neocities seems bretty good My only real complaint per se is that they don't let you set up your site on a SUBDOMAIN You have to dedicate the @ record to them; you can't just fork over www. if you want them to host your website on a custom domain Other than that, it looks like they're doing some good work. I could stand fore more than WebDav (lol) support, something that might make it easier to keep some kind of static blog up-to-date, but ah well

>>4955 Do they still inject ads on your website? I dropped them because of that back in the day
Agent Smith · 2017-10-11 14:38
>>4957 Yes if you don't get enough views in a month. Also they leaked a TON of personal information
Emmanuel · 2017-10-11 19:37
>>4962 Well that's like the exact opposite of "not too bad". That's completely fuarrrked up.

I would like to make a personal online library with what I've collected so far (which isn't that much, around 5 gb worth of epub/pdf files). I wanted to use Neocities since I'm a supporter but I have some doubts if they'll allow copyrighted content to be uploaded there. Are there any good servers where I can upload copyrighted content nowadays without getting pwned? The other option would be to upload them to mega (or something) but uploading directly to my site is what I'd prefer
