Bolt 4 E-Scooter / Scooter Hacking

The Oracle · 2022-06-23 18:41
Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but if this is le tru ebin cyberbunk forum I guess you don't have an issue with something potentially illegal. So don't tell me I'm stealing or whatever. I don't care about this soykafty company that's being compensated by my tax money. I also don't care if it's not worth the risk, I just think it would be pretty cool to drive on one of those otherwise retarded gaytoys for free. So let's suppose I found one of these glitterboy toys abondoned in some forest ditch, battery completely drained, driving bloackade not working and briefly decided to drive it a few meters and store it in a safe location for later examination. I haven't opened it yet but it seems to be assembled mostly by regular screws and the company is advertising their scooters to be particularly 'green' and servicable. So in case I open it, suppose it has some general purpose microcontroller, perhaps it could be reprogrammed - I saw some hacks for other scooter models https://cfw.sh/, though this particular model isn't listed there and I couln't find a lot of information about these scooters in the first place. Also it is a fairly recent model - just released last year apparently, so I assume they have improved the security quite a bit. Hence the other option I guess would be to just rip out whatever tracking hardware and stuff is in there and replace it with some general purpose drivers etc. that could propably be cheaply aquired from china since in the end those scooters are propably pretty similar and come down to a handful of manufacturers - I have seen this with E-Bikes. If anyone is knowledgable about these things, help would be appreciated, otherwise I'll just pry the thing open and see what's in there. I will post more pictures later maybe.
John Titor · 2022-06-23 19:07
They have potentially GPS module and sim module that communicates with internet and their own servers and also can be used to triangulate the scooter. What you want is a short range low cost jammer, maybe even DIY would work (just a car spark plug with filters and antenna that target that specific frequency would work, 800 Mhz - 1900 Mhz for GPRS and gps module can be overloaded, just do basic car spark plug jammer google) Then just force that scooter on your car with jammer working near it and go to your house, open it and rip it out, paint it and vóila. There are a plenty of fágs like you that already did it. Godspeed anon.
Lain Iwakura · 2022-06-23 19:31
>>8887 Thanks. But could you elaborate further? You mean the jammer to prevent the company/authorities whatever from somehow finding out my location? I don't know if the tracking hardware is still active if the battery is drained and I don't know if they would bother picking it up from such remote locations or how closely they track the movement of every vehicle. They don't seem to bother that much since it's propbably been laying there for some time if the battery is completely drained. Buying a jammer for hundred €$ seems a little over the top for me. Though for safety reasons I obviously haven't taken it into my residence yet. There is an abondoned place where I should be able to calmly 'examine' its insides. But I have to admit I'm a bit shizo about some security cams having picked me up on the way. You never know. They are all over the place. If it is as you say and there have been plenty of other fágs who already did that, could you perhaps supply me with some ressources?
Yuki Nagato · 2022-06-23 19:51
>>8887 You mean a jammer could somehow be utilized to spoof the controller?
John Titor · 2022-06-23 20:34
jamming GPS is fine and good but all your enemy needs for sufficiently accurate&precise positioning is sim.
Mario Rossi · 2022-06-23 21:07
>>8888 >I don't know if the tracking hardware is still active if the battery is drained and I don't know if they would bother picking it up from such remote locations or how closely they track the movement of every vehicle. Battery for tracking doesn't need to be the same battery as the one used by the motor. Also yea, they are expensive machines that make them money, if word got out one is stolen more could be stolen again. Crime is best stopped at the beginning, not when its malignant. And yea, GPS modules today are precise up to like half a meter, GPRS could be up to like 30 cm >Buying a jammer for hundred €$ seems a little over the top for me. Make it then. Google "schematic for gps and gprs jammer", buy the parts and solder it yourself. Spark plug jammers are cheapest and easiest to make. The spark that the plug makes is across a lot of frequencies and can induce currents in anthennas and circuitry. Think like a tesla coil lighting up a halogen bulb, except less interesting :) >There is an abondoned place where I should be able to calmly 'examine' its insides. But I have to admit I'm a bit shizo about some security cams having picked me up on the way. You never know. They are all over the place. Don't bring your phone, they can locate you by it. Also wear a covid mask of some sorts to mask your identity. >could you perhaps supply me with some ressources? Nah, im on vacation and this was long time ago when I googled it. You can google it yourself. Jesus dude, do you need to be spoonfed information about how to steal? What are you 15? It would be pretty sad if you were any older than that to be honest
Lain Iwakura · 2022-06-23 21:21
>>8891 >Jesus dude, do you need to be spoonfed information about how to steal? What are you 15? I'm a good boi. I have never stolen anything in my life Present Day, Present Time! AHAHAHAHAHA! Also it's not like I'm just taking something away. It's a sophisticated high tech device that needs serious tinkering before being even usable. Also pls no ban I'm not underage I'll just let it lie there for a couple of days and if nothing happens, it'll be fine. I have seen sandniggers throwing them in a lake as a contest. And according to some sauce that I just pulled out of my ass in reality these scooters only last for about 30 days max anyways. It's all a big scam.
Hitomi · 2022-06-24 07:38
Well you dont really need to steel one. They eventually get rid of them for new ones so you just got to know if they ever action them off dirt cheap or just toss them in the trash . Then you dont have to rush modifying one which wouldn't have been realistic unless you created an external device that can override the internal existing software.
Anonymous · 2022-06-24 13:50
>>8894 I assume they get rid of them when the battery reaches end of life. Meaning you'd have to replace the most expensive part to make it usable.
Armitage · 2022-06-24 14:04
More a question for programming for technology I imagine but, anyone figured out a way to scam the app to ride for free without the need for hardware modification? These soykaf companies can smd

>>8896 >These soykaf companies can smd exactly
Jet Black · 2022-06-24 15:23
>>8886 You need some sort of radio-proof box to transport it from pickup location to disassembly location. This place should also be a radio-impenetrable room or garage, ideally not tied to your real name in case signal leaks and they try to investigate by sending police or private death squad Nintendo style. If you really managed to hide it from naked eye it (e.g. a deep bush in same forest), eventually it will be found by company technicians and picked up for recharge. You should act quick. Since you are in a pedestrian forest, pick low attendance but well-lit hours, early morning on workday, bring battery screw driver with bits, some hand wrenches and disassemble this soykaf right on spot, document the process by taking pics or video and disable tracking circuitry. Now you have more info and can salvage these scooters next time faster. Are you sure screws are really "regular", e.g. torx and not pentalobes? Finally, security check: you did not bring a cellular phone near this thing or get on cctv camera footage approaching it, did you?
Dujour · 2022-06-24 16:57
>>8898 >Are you sure screws are relly "regular", e.g torx and not pentalobes? No, they are pentalobe - some weird star shape I guess. Can I still somehow screw them using a flathead? >Finally, security check: you did not bring a cellular phone near this thing or get on cctv camera footage approaching it, did you? Nah I acted extremely retarded and forgot some security cam on the way that propably picked me up. I generally acted in an obnoxious way and propably got some attention pushing the thing around. That's getting on my nerves quite a bit. But would they really bother checking every security cam on the way? I didn't have a phone with me. But I took it with me this time, in flight mode. Though you can never be sure they can't still pick up cellular activity in this state, so that's making me even more paranoid. But theb again, is it really that important? Will they apply to the police immediately and have all those surveillance data checked? I had to have some way of taking pictures of the thing. It is still lying in the same spot. If I manage to remove the tracking soykaf on the spot, I'll find some other spot in the forest to relocate it.
Joey · 2022-06-25 10:25
>>8890 right. I there is no way I can block out the tracking except transporting it in a lead case. I'll see to it that I aquire the nessecary tools for the job on the spot...
Ender · 2022-06-25 13:22
>>8898 So those are pentalobe, I guess. Now I have used a dremel to uncrew such screws in the past. I'd have to somehow have to bring a battery and inverter with me in the early morning hours to rape those screws. The top thing where you're supposed to connect your phone with seems to be mounted by regular screw, but they wouldn't make it that easy, would they? The tracking soykaf is propably beneath that lid. I found some guy posting an earlier model of the scooter where the gsm module appears to be inside the thing on top idk. https://www.reddit.com/r/ScooterHack/comments/v1maxl/is_that_hackable_bolt_scooter_series_2/

>>8886 Can't speak on scooter internals but you committed a rather minor theft and if you don't have a prior record may only be asked to pay back the value of the thing plus court fees. If you're a NEET you might only have to pay court fees. I see you wigging out and being noided you need to take a deep breath dragnet geographic cell phone provider warrants are typically only served by state and larger muncipal police (NYC, LA), and there isn't really a dragnet camera warrant option yet, though I expect there to be as cameras become IoT. Currently, some asshole still has to drive around, identify cameras, fill the paperwork, present to judge, collect footage, for every possible camera. The first priority of police is to project an image of security in order to keep the nervous skittish yuppies feeling safe and going to work and paying their taxes and taking out mortgages and car loans. Burgalry and murder disrupt this illusion of security, some kid wheeling off a scooter is low-priority. Get some friends, mask up, throw them all off a bridge because fuarrrk meme tech corpos getting my tax dollars. And if you can't commit such a minor infraction without shaking and sweating, consider that being an epik cyberpunk street criminal isn't for you. Trinity · 2022-06-28 22:35
>>8902 1. Screw caps on rectangular lid are "security" Torx, a fairly common bit in modern toolboxes. Pentalobe are 5-ray stars and were popularized by Apple around 2010. 2. Black screw looks like Phillips cross, can also be picked with flat head. 3. Looks like either rivets or is there some square shape inside? You can try unscrewing stuff and inspecting it. If it trips some sensor alarm and death squad dispatch is sent, make sure to erase all fingerprints (work in thin cotton gloves) and evacuate the premises. Just do it already.

It's OP reporting back. I went there today early in the morning and >>8898 it seems like that company or rather its minimum wage slaves really don't give a fuarrrk about their scooters. It's still there despite lying in the same place for over a week now. >>8908 Yes. I am living off government subsidy (autism bux). I don't have any prior records. So it's reassuring to hear that I might not get fuarrrked over that badly just in case. >Currently, some asshole still has to drive around, identify cameras, fill the paperwork, present to judge, collect footage, for every possible camera. So they haven't gotten to ccp tier automated AI bug surveillance here? That too is reassuring. >consider that being an epik cyberpunk street criminal isn't for you I'm too retarded anyways to make it as some "cyberpunk criminal" kek. I just want a scooter >>8911 I managed to remove the lid with the security torx and there is a regular chinese controller with leads leading to the rear where the motor is located with the battery next to it (first pic) The battery (second pic) is secured by some kind of rivets - I couldn't locate any screws. I would have to use a crowbar to somehow pry it out, though I suppose the GSM is on top - on the handlebar - anyways. I didn't manage to remove one of the two philips screws on the handlebar. They were quite firm. I need a better screwdriver. The other things though are indeed rivets and I could just pry the plastic apart using a flat head screwdriver. I didn't manage to open it. If nothing works, I'll saw the plastic apart. Unfortunately I didn't bring those tools with me. I just want to quickly spray paint it and finally take that thing away with the next train. This forest is ceratinly not a very comfortable place and there is some kind of deserted hobo commune nearby. I never know when someone's gonna show up. >>8919 PS stay away from any 5g towers they can use RF to turn the chip on, this ofc after you removed the second battery, and tinfoiled the whole thing.
OP · 2022-07-01 20:48
>>8917 I further persued my scooter endeavor and made a bit of progress removing the top piece and ripping out what I think to be the gsm module. What confused me though, was that I couldn't find any sim card. So I assume that to somehow be permanently tied to that chip (pic related)
OP · 2022-07-01 21:02
>>8932 Anyways. I didn't find it so improbable that there might be another tracking device directly mounted on the main battery. So I spent the rest of the evening vainly attempting to open the battery compartment. I removed every screw I could locate, and used my flat head screwdriver to hack the plastic apart, but being unable to move the assembly just an inch, I assume it is still held on by rivets which I can't remove with my current tools. I don't know how high the odds are that there still is something in there but I think I will do the paint job tomorrow and finally take the thing home with the next train before someone else does, hopefully not drawing any unnessary attention. Thank you for reading my blog.
OP · 2022-07-01 21:09
First pic is the top finally coming apart which was tightly held by those rivets and took me at least two hours to pry open. Second pic is the wire salad hanging out of the handlebar. I wonder if I will ever manage to make it work using the original controller.

>>8941 >I need to have a fuarrrking numberplate and get this thing registered, otherwise I'll get some juicy fines this seems over the top like whats gonna happen its not like you can run over people with it and why even have electronics in it, like ffs its a scooter you are supposed to use your legs to drive it, like with electric cars i can somewhat get it because enviroment but its a scooter you literally use your legs to drve it, so aside from tracking, it remains a big why? as to why have electronics inside of it.
Agent Richard Gill · 2022-07-02 21:53
>>8943 >this seems over the top like whats gonna happen its not like you can run over people with it Yeah. It makes sense to have the vehicle registered to prevent reckless behaviour. Though that's not what this is about. If you don't have a specific model that has some verified lights or some other retarded soykaf and has gotten an official piece of certified paper from the factory that it is built in a certain way, it's practically worthless. You would need to pay some asshole to do that certification for you - for a couple of hundred bugs - hardly worth it most of the time and not even guaranteed to work in the end. It's only individual owners that are getting fuarrrked over. It's not an issue for those yippie companies of course. Meanwhile every idiot can drive on those rental scooters which are getting tossed around and demolished, thrown into the landfil. Looking forward seeing this masive bubble bursting once the last yippie retard faggøt currently pumping money into this hoax - money that *could* be used for something useful - has pulled out. It's all so invigorating. It's the same soykaf with wind turbines that are ruining every last bit of idyll in this godforsaken place. I tend to rant. And blogpost. THis is now my blog. Thanks for reading. >as to why have electronics inside of it. Why put motor on bike? Why motorize anything at all if you can use your legs? But I guess you're right though. Those scooters don't really replace cars as the yippie faggøts like to claim. They just make people even more lazy and retarded since they don't have to move their fat asses themselfes even for short distances anymore...

>>8946 Problem is it's a custom made scooter specifically for that rental companiy. >>8948 While I'm pretty sure you're right that its easily shown to be from this company to begin with anyway, assuming that they'll figure that out is I think placing a little too much faith in bureaucratic enthusiasm and ability. Quite likely, they don't notice. If they notice, quite likely they don't care. If they care, quite likely they still won't be able to organize to do much about it, and if they do, quite likely OP can just hand over the scooter and appologize for the misunderstanding. Even the company that made the scooter doesn't value them highly; they just leave them in the ditch. How many are in the bottoms of rivers and other things ? I think OP is fine. Try and do the bureaucratic stuff soon as practical though just so you don't waste time cleaning the thing up on the off chance you loose it.

This is the battery opened. The BMS PCB is huge, there are several temperature sensors. Some connectors I can't identity - I assume the system has some more advanced logic, like the ability to read out battery wear or something like that. The batteries themselves are high quality LG cells I can't identity without taking the pack apart. But given the compact size have to be quite high density. The pack has a whopping 518Wh. It all looks very professional, not something you would find in a generic consumer grade battery pack.

OP here. Hard to believe this thread is still up. This is a very slow board. Scooter is still catching dust in my parents basement and they are complaining the fuarrrking thing is taking up too much space. In the meantime I've also been aquiring more batteries. 2 of them I just found lying around on the sidewalk still with decent charge in them. Seem perfectly fine. No clue what's the deal with that. Those fuarrrking scam companies seem to really not give a soykaf what happens to their stuff. Only collecting green user eco bux and yuppie stocks or whatever. What a incredible waste of ressources just so those greenfa99ots can feel good about themselfes. >>10498 Actually except the GSM/GPS board on top of the handlebar which I already ripped out from the very beginning there's only a what looks exactly like a normal off the shelf chink DC motor controller inside - An Aluminium shell filled with epoxy. Looks exactly like what's inside my ebike. I guess this could be somehow activated by pulling some pins high. No motivation for that right now though. So I guess I'll let it catch dust a bit longer. And yes, I can also abduct another scooter anytime since they are all over the place in my degenerate city. There's also tons of "lime" scooters. Heard you can just flash a new firmware or get a controller for 30$ or something.
John Titor · 2023-07-14 03:17
>>10592 Cool ass project, OP. >normal off the shelf chink DC motor controller Then getting the ESC to work will probably be trivial, one of those wires is the "ignition" (not to be confused with ) and needs to be pulled high to turn it on. das it. There arent a million ways to communicate with an esc: PWM or potentiometer. You can literally just trash that gsm/gps module. I find the idea of strapping a jammer to it absolutely hilarious, you could disable its RF capabilities by removing a few critical components or just cutting a few traces here and there, but really, just trash it. you dont need it. Worst case scenario: the throttle is connected to it and its converting the potentiometer's value into a pwm signal for the ESC --> getting an arduino to do the same thing is piss easy. As for the BMS i would probably just trash it too and get a daly BMS for like 20$ to avoid the headache. That said, pretty sure the data link is just to report battery status to the corpos for fleet management purposes, pretty sure you dont need it, pretty sure itll probably behave like a normal BMS without it. Wouldn't be too hard to figure out if it does by monitoring cell voltage.

>>10594 I finally took some time off and got around to looking into the batteries and managed to get it to work with the original BMS. For anyone "following along at home", I did it by pulling pin 6 of the IC U3 "bq76200" up which is the discharge enable pin. So this effectively disables the security features for discharging such as overcurrent and individual cell monitoring, which are provided by a microcontroller, but the most important safety feature, the overcharge protection and perhaps balancing (I don't know if this BMS is capable of that) still remains in place as charging works out of the box without modifying anything. Perhaps not the most perfect hack, but my E-Bike ESC only discharges to 34V before shutting off anyways, so it over-discharging is very unlikely and for short circuits I added a fuse holder to provide extra protection in case I fuarrrk something up. >one of those wires is the "ignition" (not to be confused with ) and needs to be pulled high to turn it on. das it. Yep, I hope you're right. It really does look like a generic ESC. Though scared I'll fry something, since I don't really know which wire would be the "ignition wire". I hope I can find the motivation to look into it the next couple of days.

Pro tip on moving such scooters into discreet location without a van and not looking like an obvious thief. You will need a non-descript looking e-scooter of your own, with "off-road" capabilities like big wheels and sturdy frame. Load this thing up on the platform, stand up yourself and off you go anywhere humans don't usually do in your particular area/park, on the dirtiest dirt path. Anyone who'd see you riding this way would assume you're a serviceman, or just fetching a ride for your gf or something. Wear some plainclothes and a "service"-looking robe or coat (not too bright and new) if you're that paranoid.

I apologize if my question might seem stupid but I'm not that good with technology. So from what I can understand to make the scooter completely untrackable by the company all I would have to do is theoretically rip out the gsm thing that is located inside of the black box near the handlebars?

>>10630 Propably it suffices to just remove the backup battery which can be removed if you take the door in the buttom off which is secured by secure torx. But in all honesty I'm not really sure. It is also propably that that eco tax comany just doesn't give a single soykaf about what happens to their vehicles. They didn't try fetch it when it was just lying there in the woods for several weeks.

>>8886 My knowledge is quite dated now but cracking these things open was something that happened within the first months of them getting on the street. But that was partially because the components weren't nearly as purpose oriented and you'd get yourself a neat general purpose micro controller with a little work with a flat head screw driver. Now the bigger companies surely use some more specialized circuitry but since the other components are likely the same the idea with substituting the original with a custom controller should work. Looking into scooter and mono wheel repair videos should be a good resource. But one thing is still true, those scooters are made for bulk. Meaning companies already put into account that they get trashed or destroyed on purpose. Last number I've heard is the life expectancy of one of those is about a month. That's it. As long as the size of your operation is low and you cover your face with a medical mask, have non identifiable markings, logos or plates and don't have a phone with you (not even when it's "off") then the effort is way too large. Especially when you're at a place that's already overwhelmed and mismanaged like Sanfran or anywhere else where police won't even show up if the sum of goods isn't exceeding $1K or where you've got "KIA boys". Interesting are still the motors and batteries even if the controllers are purpose oriented. But even then they still should have usb ports for firmware updates and the chipset should be a fairly common one. >>8888 Nice numerals. But a jammer has its own set of problems. If it's too strong you could get into trouble with your local broadcast feds as you're also easy to triangulate. Besides it's not the GPS you want to jam or spoof but that it doesn't radio back to HQ with its correct geo location. The sensors are depending on the manufacturer and sharing service of varying precision but usually they're good enough to identify the street you're on. I'd always assume a minimum precision of 10m, even 5 meters. The sender with all the electronics are most likely in those boxes attached to the handle bar. Some models might also by now use the pole or bars as additional antenna space. You could probably cover it with a few layers of regular tinfoil. I doubt there's going to be any communication electronics in the bottom part of the scooter but who knows? If you've got an older car or van and so no tracking or wifi nonsense of its own then you could create a faradaic cage. Or come up with one of those cargo bikes if you can figure out how to fold them. But bigger problem it the acceleration sensor which makes an alarm go off when you move it but there's no active ride going on. But if you block the scooter's signal and are in a place where nobody gives a damn then that shouldn't hinder you either.
