I just want to move to pipe from tobacco.
In my country, getting tobacco leaves is kinda inconvenient because most people smoke tobacco, not pipe, cig or hooka etc.
But buying a pipe is easy through internet even though buying tobacco leaves in internet is illegal.
But I prefer to diy my own pipe. Which is easier? Wooden or Metal? I wonder anyone tried this and what's your opinion?
If it's too fuarrrking hard to make it. I mean, when comparing between making own (spending time) and buying through internet (spending money), I calculate the value of them and choose more efficiently one.
Also, I said before, getting tobacco leaves is kinda hard in my country because there's no demand. So I want to grow and get them myself if it's possible.
Did anyone try to grow tobacco?

I assume you'd be casting with i.e. pewter. Probably good to get good unleaded stuff, and maybe do some simple lost wax thing. That sounds ezpz to be honest. Stem is the hardest part, but you could get that seperately, or I'm sure you could manage anyway.
If you have a mill and can do it in i.e. aluminium or steel that sounds kinda snazzy
Pewter is low temp but if wood works then its not going to be an issue. I honestly don't know what normal pipe temps are, do you ?
>Wood
wood carving doesn't seem hard if you have the right peice of wood, but to me its always been a bit frustrating a material. maybe not to you, I dunno.
Most of the material I'm finding about wooden pipe bowls are discussing fairly specific woods treated in fairly specific ways, long dried and prepared, even corncobs. I'm sure you could make one with just a branch or a tobuyfor, but I'm not going to expect it to be pretty. Also pay attention to wood sourcing if you buy from i.e. hardware store, cause a lot of that soykaf is chemically treated in weird ways and might not be good to smoke.
>ceramic
worth thinking about if you can find a kiln to borrow. also ez pz especially for a bowl. And pretty glazes are pretty. Also glass.
>horn
not finding too much about horn except as a stem material. Horn can be a pleasure to carve and seems like it would work fine, though also has some difficulties with heat.
>stone
I'm thinking soapstone. Pretty soft and easy to carve. Finding some refferences to soapstone pipes
>growing tobacco
this depends a lot on where you live. I like the idea of doing it in some weird indoor hydroponics setup ala all those weedeaters though. Worth noting that a lot of tobacco also gets long dried out and otherwise prepared before being smoked and whatnaught.
I think it would be a lot easier to find a little shop that will take care of you. Might be worth asking at a cig/ar shop if they know a place you could go, there's surely one in your country.

>Pewter is low temp but if wood works then its not going to be an issue. I honestly don't know what normal pipe temps are, do you ?
I don't know about it well. But I searched little bit.
>The temperatures produced when tobacco was burned in pipe, cigarette, and cigar smoking have been measured by a calibrated thermocouple. Temperature of the combustion zone in a pipe was about 500° C. (variability, 380°–620° C.).
And pewter is
>Pewter begins to soften at 471 F (244 C) and becomes fully molten at around 563 F (295 C). Casting temperatures are generally above this level to ensure the molten material fills whatever cavity entirely before it begins to solidify, and range from 600 to 645 Degrees F(316-330 D Celsius).
So I guess pewter make me anxious. Stainless will be a good option?
But how wood is bearable it? I also search about this 'cuz I'm fuarrrking ignorance about all these sorts of things.

That makes me interesting.
Also I found there're more simple design metal pipes which I think it's more easiler to shape. I don't really care about how it is designed well. Most important things are how it works well and safety.

I agree with you... I'm gonna travel in my country soon :/

stainless would be a fine option, but do you have a way of shaping stainless steel? If you do then sure, why not. Advantage of pewter is that its easy to shape intentionally, with the caveat that it is also easy to shape accidentally. Stainless steel is the opposite.
I think re: remperatures its also worth pointing out that if you have a big thick metal bowl, its unlikely to actually all reach the temperature of the fire inside; there's a lot of metal to heat up and it will be constantly radiating that heat away. You'll also know well in advance if the bowl of your pipe is getting anywhere near 500c and be able to extinguish it.
reading a bit about wooden bowls, makes it sound like they tend to be either very specially selected wood, and only slightly disposeable, or more disposeable i.e. corn cobs. Probably nothing wrong with making one and burning it out after a while in my humble opinion, will give you a chance to make a nicer one later.
