Reading through picrel, and wondering if anyone here has a license and a workstation. Share your setups and any other resources

I recommend browsing the ARRL antenna book and the ARRL Handbook at some point. Once you get your license, I recommend you start with either a Wouxun KG-UV6D, a Baofeng UV-5R or a Baofeng UV-82. Those are entry level handhelds that are good enough. Also, keep in mind that you need to have a repeater near you. If you want something better, you should buy an used one. There are also some webSDRs that you can freely listen to using a web browser.

>>8349 Honest question to any hams around: Can you give an example of amateur radio being used in an 'emergency' situation where it wasn't completely superfluous to official first responders? Hard mode: Any such situation above where a few blister packs of Motorola Talkabouts would not have sufficed? licenced extra here eagerly awaiting your replies. 73

>>8356 look up MARS you can integrate into the military communication system HAM gets used in rural settings or where phones are overused for bandwidth because people insist on facetiming instead of sending text messages to let people know they are okay
