Leeching as a cyberpunk lifestyle

Joe Bloggs · 2021-11-24 19:31
Aight, this thread will be about leeching. What do i mean by this? Basically, everything one can do to profit from society's fruits, without giving back. It is a more radical form of the protest by non-participation, and aims to destabilize Society by taking energy out of the system, thus slowing it down and leading to gradual breakdown of system components and, as an end result, the entire system. Leeching can take many forms, be it the simple act of stealing gas, stealing books from the library, utilizing public wifi and power outlets, taking public resources a simple example being toilet paper and soap from public restrooms , dumpster diving this being an increasingly acceptable form of leeching , and many others. If you have experience with the leeches' lifestyle, and are willing to share, post your experiences, tips, tricks and strategies to extract as much as possible from the society we are living in.
Sabo Engle · 2021-11-24 21:39
If you want to "leech" off of society then start with welfare. Stealing books from library is nothing but lame, this is why when you see a payphone that was changed into mini-library its usually empty, because homeless people steal all the books and then try to sell them.. inatead of dumpster diving i'd recommend just going to civic amenity site with something and taking few things (don't show it to the people working there, they usually don't permit it), because things you find are usually mostly working and you can fix or salvage them easily (got a nice CRT, which just had all the electrolyte capacitators dried up) If you want (relatively) cheap VPN server buy a raspberry pi3, setup wireguard and some free ddns and when you get into a hotel/motel/.. with free wifi just connect the rpi to the wifi. I did this on university so i have 3 fast private VPN servers at almost no cost, just make sure to hide them properly More ideas: keylogger on public pc RFID copier - get acess basically everywhere, free public transport,... A lot of vending maschines that support paying cash & bank can be fuarrked over by first buying the cheapest thing with cash, then smashing the start/pay button on card terminal, that usually takes the price that was last in the "memory" of the cash paying mechanism, therefore allowing you to get anything for the lowest price (still have to pay with card) Pretty sure some of those phone charging stations can be easily lockpicked

No reason to steal gas when you could legally and free pickup waste cooking oil to filter and convert into biofuel.
The Phantom Phreak · 2021-11-25 13:19
There is lots of power outlets and semi open power lines, all one needs to do is get a powerbank and glue it to a usb charger then plug the thing in and get it when its full. You could get a lot of juice for free, if youre willing to lay cables and soykaf. But i never had time for that really. Obviously getting stuff out of dumpsters, you can live like a king if you scout out the trash. I can understand sabotaging the system, but stealing from public toilets is bellow the belt imo.

Work for cash, barter, or for non-traceable crypto, report low income, then: get free healthcare, food stamps and scholarships, tax credits, down payment assistance, and on and on. This is basically the Classic option. Stealing toilet paper is good practice for this attitude but definitely small fry in terms of public resources. Fake Americans with family and connections in certain less-developed countries only: take out a bunch of student loans, credit card debt, and possibly even SBA loans, live for free for a decade being a permanent student, cash out as much as possible, then return to your home country and never come back. Have house or car, overinsure it, have a tragic accident happen that requires an insurance payout. Hard on house, easy with car by just parking it somewhere that floods. Buy a house in a state with full bankruptcy exemptions for homestead, pay it off by taking debt in other places if necessary, have a ball with credit cards, declare bankruptcy, keep the house. Make sure you "work" in a field that will let you declare 30k of electronics or tools or whatever as tools of the trade. Be careful and know how to not make it look like "bankruptcy abuse". This will be stressful if you are not completely shameless. Either be or get married to some kind of MFDV (Minority / Female / Disabled / Veteran, ideally all for) -- first get a free job, then make a company to get government contracts and just farm them out to whoever for a 10% cut. Are you in the military? Do you have ED, PTSD, or any other difficult-to-prove disabilities? The answer is yes, you do. Enjoy the free money! Hopefully you joined the Air Force and spent five years in an office doing work on computers or something to have skills for future work. Enjoy your free college.

I do not claim to have a political orientation or a grand goal, but i have the belief that crashing the current system, forcing a cold reboot, a restart, is the only way to see an actual return to normalcy within my lifetime. But i digress. The thing is, i (and many others) can only strike low. Believing that i can make a change on a grand scale by taking on the rich head on is delusional. And believing that bringing collapse to the system is a noble goal is also delusional. Lady Jessica · 2022-04-21 12:50
>>8528 There is a thing called borrowing money. If the cost of energy was what you were told it was, it would be cheaper to build renewable on borrowed money rather than to invest in coal or fuel power plants. Poor people buy expensive boots because they are poor for a reason and that reason is often poor judgement. Cheap boots that last a year cost less per year than good boots that last 5. France. We have almost 90% of our electricity being from uncarbonated source and we raze forest and create undestructible waste with windmill to close the nuclear power plants. The huge problem with renewables is the same one our ancestors faced in the middle ages: wind doesn't blow, mill doesn't grind. We're completely reliant on the weather, so if we don't have backup power in form of fossil fuel burning power plants, we're fvcked. We cannot even solve this problem, because we literally have no way to store the vast amounts of energy needed for keeping the country running. It's not ineffiecient, it's simply not working. >Being poor is expensive Actually, being dumb and not caring for your things is expensive. It is far more user friendly, is easier to configure, doesn't force a metric ton of telemetry on it's user, and doesn't force updates (it didn't do so even in its prime), basically: it works in a way that is desirable for it's user. The only better option would be a well put together Linux distro, that has been idiot proofed and approved by governmental agencies for use by it's employees. Windows XP is often regarded as the last good Windows, or even the best windows of all time. It would definitely be an improvement over whatever cr4p is running now. >>8546 I somewhat disagree, if anything Windows Vista is far superior than 7 (which 7 is just vista 6.1 with less graphics memory allocation for 2007 GPU/RAMlets and more cyberhump on top). Debloating windows 7 services/telemetry is also a pain in the ass and it doesn't even disable since the checkboxes are greyed out or it will say you don't have enough permissions to disable the spyware telemetry (cannot be disabled). I have more graphics performance running graphics software on Vista VM than windows 7, plus it is far less bloated, Vista home has less of the bloat that 7 had and even less telemetry (you can just manually sideload things like gpedit) XP is great but it can't run most software, although same thing could be said with Vista, though the amount of telemetry, bloat, and lag that windows 7 has isn't worth for the software support especially when I would use Vista only for specific purposes.

With this in mind, this aids and addresses the collective collapse we are craving Another effective method of vandalism/leeching(because we do derive a certain amount of satisfaction from doing this since we are sick fuarrrks) is puncturing the tires of parked cars. I used to do this more than a few years ago. Usually i did it at night and only once during the day, all that is needed is a sturdy knife(with a decent point) and not being a fatass. Usually would target cars parked a ways away with little pedestrian traffic. Usually I would jam the knife just in the middle where you would usually see the big logo/brand. With that, I heard to avoid puncturing all 4 tires since insurance is likely to pay it if that is the case but if not car insurance will not cover it. Dont know if that is bullion but just felt like mentioning it. A very inconspicuous manner of leeching is while doing your necessary grocery shopping, is to visit the local dairy or freezer aisle grab a few things here and there before checking out leave these very perishable items simply out to melt since you of course are a very fickle customer(may get you derezzed). Another leech I recommend but haven't tried is pellet gun vandalism. Pellets have the benefit of being pretty untraceable since the pellet disintegrates at least to my modest knowledge. If you want, use zlibrary, you can find pretty much anything your heart desires there. It has a daily download limit, but it's not that bad (5/day). There isn't any amount of leeching any random person/people can do to destabilise society if you live in a society that has basically achieved post-scarcity. In terms of leeching from public resources, those resources are kept so desperately austere, its theft couldn't possibly affect the upper echelons of society, only society's most impoverished. The true leechers in society are corporations and billionaires, Musk for example is sucking millions out of society by snapping up government tech tenders and investing it in wild product "reveals" to drive up his company's stock prices. Money that could have been spent on heart surgery to keep someone's father alive past his 40s, has instead been spent on putting a dancer into a suit that looks robotic so Musk can declare robots will be a reality... someday. That's being a leech.

Here's one from me: If you are working a whitecollar/codemonkey office-space job, use the compute resources of your office/workplace to mine Monero for yourself. Make the xmrig miner software run in the background of the always-on computers, with 1% system resource leeching during the day, and maybe increase that percent during the night. Scheme up a way to keep the leeching off the compute resources as stealthy as possible. Seize the means of (compute) production.

>>11919 I thought of doing something like this some time back at a similar sort of job. The idea was to have a system set up to be portable and easy to conceal and configured to automatically start mining once power was provided. Internet would be handled via a travel router (or a prepaid SIM card) and Tor, with the miner program running on startup. The system itself would run some sort of lightweight Linux distrubution such as Debian/Devuan or Arch or Gentoo or something similar. Think a gaming laptop or small form factor PC that would fit in a backpack that you could take into a coffee shop or office, plug into power, connect to wifi via a travel router, and quietly mine Monero/some other crypto. I suppose if you wanted to modify this further while at work you could get an older e-waste or discarded machine from IT, pull the network credentials and MAC address off it, and leave it plugged in someplace with the above configuration. Running a miner on a work provided machine you use seems like it would just draw attention by IT, though I suppose it depends on how competent your IT staff are.

Hotel lobbies are great places to use the restroom and if they're particularly busy you can go and eat there for free the mornings

leeching isn't the right word for it imo - it implies entitlement, that the system is entitled to the fruits of your labor and you are not paying what you owe to the system. wealthy politicians believe they are entitled to your tax dollars and that anyone who makes use of any public service like welfare or food stamps is a leech on the system, even though your tax dollars pay for these public goods. the apple corporation believes that they are entitled to your money and they consider it "leeching" when you buy a secondhand iphone from some rando instead of buying a new iphone directly from apple, but you're not leeching anything from apple, you're just bartering with another person instead of apple. if we are going to liberate ourselves from dependence on the existing power structures we must first liberate our minds and our language from the social conditioning that tells us that we are subservient to said power structures and that we owe them our money and they owe us nothing in return.

real talk: if you really want to be a "leech" you should learn how to fix your own car. i was forced to learn how to be my own mechanic by poverty about a year ago when a mechanic tried to charge me $1500 to fix the brakes on my car and instead i replaced the pads and the fluid myself for less than a hundred dollars. more recently i saved another $800 by changing the spark plugs and ignition coils myself with a set of generic chinese spark plugs and coils i got from amazon warehouse for $65. i read somewhere that the biggest expenditure americans make by far is on cars, either needlessly buying new cars or getting shafted by mechanics with exorbitant repair costs. buy a soykafty old car directly from the owner on craigslist or something and learn how to fix it and keep it running to 300k+ miles and you'll be "leeching" tons of money from the system.

How bulky and beefy of a rig would I need to be able to mine cryptocurrency using public electricity? If local or neighbor WiFi has any problem with it, I could use my phone hotspot. The question is making enough money? I doubt a laptop would make me any more than one cent per year, but a bookshelf full of ASICs might get the attention of the cafe staff.
