Graduation project

Joseph Seed · 2021-10-11 20:11
So next year I'll have to make a project that is part of my graduation. I'm in electrical engineering and the project is supposed to be mostly "hardware". Some of the projects already made include model of house with auto light and temperature management, 3D printer, 3axis mechanical hand with remote,... I was thinking about making a shortwave radio mesh network, which would have WiFi using something like ESP32 so you could access the local network which would store files in a decentralized freenet -like storage, but I think that would be overkill for a project like this. So I was thinking of other ways to use the shortwave radio to transmit some data (meteorological stations or something?). Any ideas for the project are welcome. They don't have to utilize the shortwave radio.

>>7477 How is electrical engineering as a career and degree? Do you get to work with radio a lot in electrical engineering?
Unspecified · 2021-10-12 03:11
Since you made a 3D printer why not a dedicated 3D scanner with a motor that moves it around the subject to use with it? Or is that lame since even phones these days can be used as 3D scanners? What other sort of interests do you have?

>>7478 The field of study is called applied electronics and if I graduate it'll allow me to work in basically any electrical engineering job. >Do you get to work with radio a lot in electrical engineering? I don't, but I joined local ARDF club about a year and half ago and already had to fix some capacitators on the radio, so I'm familiar with the circuits. >>7479 Sorry, I wasn't clear enough in the first post. The projects I listed were made by other students for their project. >why not a dedicated 3D scanner with a motor that moves it around the subject to use with it? Sounds good, I'll ask my teacher if that would pass >What other sort of interests do you have? Running (barefoot), neural networks, anime, travelling on bike, vegetarianism, reading and digitalizing books I have 2 broken HDDs and arduino uno laying around btw Sorry for the grammar and spelling in this and op I'm not native and looks like the image in op was reflecting my mental state when I wrote the post.

>>7480 Oh I see. Well a 3D scanner could act as a fill in for other types of scanners such as medical scanners to show you can work on medical equipment. For example a dental x ray machine has a rotating arm. If you needed something more complicated what about a drone with lidar scanning and automated flight path? A potential issue with your original plan of something to do with shortwave radios is you need to first obtain a license to use certain frequencies which I dont personally know how long it takes to obtain.
John Rain · 2021-10-12 10:22
>>7481 You can use some frequencies up to some power for free wothout a license. 80 meter comes to mind (3.5MHz)

>>7477 Make a cheap DNA sequencing machine or a cheap DNA synthesizer. I hope you know biochemistry.
Agent Richard Gill · 2021-10-13 07:00
>>7481 BTW with the LiDar drone what I was thinking aside from a automated surveying flight path you could get the software to have it follow you so when you ride on bike trails you can get an over head view of the trail real time without trees obsuring it's view. >>7482 Yeah I know there are unlicensed channels. Just I dont know if there is limitations on how they are used and even if there isnt they have fairly limited range which limits it's potential uses.

>>7477 lol I was planning on doing the same thing

>>7485 >Yeah I know there are unlicensed channels. Just I dont know if there is limitations on how they are used and even if there isnt they have fairly limited range which limits it's potential uses. ISM 900MHz can propagate pretty far even at the legal transmission limit. Bandwidth is pretty poor of course. I often daydream about a mesh network with my local chummers on it.
Tyrell Wellick · 2021-11-07 19:12
>>7513 You could maybe extend the range using dish reflectors.
Unnamed · 2021-12-01 09:28
Any progress with what you did?
Hiro Protagonist · 2022-05-26 09:55
How was your project, lainon?
Just another Random Lainon · 2022-05-26 18:58
>>7477 Maybe make a DIY ARM or RISC-V calculator.
