Ok, real simple. My goal is to create the perfect enclosure for the preservation of things like documents, my DNA (hair etc), and all that good stuff. Basically take something and preserve it for as long as you can without changing the original item (rewriting something with special paper and ink.). I have thought of a few things, for example would having silver around help sinc it is anti bacterial? Maybe there would be key architectural spots (not rich enough to cover all) for maximum passive bacterial killage. Similarly, I am too dumb to figure it out, but I know that humidity and temperature are important. I think below ground sorts temperature but what of humidity? I read in a fiction novel about the corpse of Jesus being preserved perfectly because he was surrounded by salt. I can not afford high tech things nor afford to ensure they stay working.

Likewise I think hair could be pressed between glass? Also (just finished an article talking about ambient radiation), I think a lead container may help maybe.

>>7462 I'm no expert, but have you considered vacuum sealing?
Armitage · 2021-10-10 11:57
>>7464 I have yeah. I think that's what the glass pressing will do. Though I'm more interested in low tech options (think of that resident evil level with the sun laser) for personal aesthetic reasons, I will of course use whatever I can that's affordable. Hell I will even make the container and room in the shape of a pyramid just in case that stuff actually helps.

>>7462 >without changing the original item Impossible. DNA is chemically unstable in water solutions and spontaneously changes, e.g. deamination. Even outside of water solution it decays slowly. All you can do is to save information describing the original object. There's technology to save information for as long as the current age of the universe but it is still experimental and hasn't been commercialized yet: https://www.5dmemorycrystal.com/

>>7466 Thanks for the link. Though I don't mean forever. Just long enough for my descendants to find after 500 to 1000 years. They will be able to replicate it.

For the DNA, the easiest solution is make as much offspring as you can. Nature has you covered, but you have to play nature's game.

>>7467 >Though I don't mean forever. Just long enough for my descendants to find after 500 to 1000 years. Use M-Discs then. >descendants >after 500 to 1000 years You know that after that time, there are going to live literally millions of your descendants? Also do you know they will have literally millions of ancestors like you? You have 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 grand grandparents, etc. 1000 years can fit about 33.(3) generations 30 years each. 2^33.(3) = 10 822 639 409 10.8 million descendants. People 1000 years later are not going to care about you just like you don't care about some random peasant who lived 1000 years ago. Just my 2 cents.
Jane Doe · 2021-10-10 16:39
>>7471 this assumes that every member of every generation will have 2 offspring. In reality there is a lot of variance among the number of children that any given pair have (and it is common that that number is 0)
Unknown · 2021-10-10 16:55
>>7472 >this assumes that every member of every generation will have 2 offspring. Yeah, I fuarrrked up that calculation, it was supposed to be for the number of ancestors. A person living 1000 years later must have about 10.8M (since today) ancestors (some of them overlapping) because every person has two parents. Calculating the number of OP's descendants is harder but not impossible. I could assume a lower reproduction ratio. Also parents should have at least 2 children on average, otherwise humanity would die out (which doesn't happen (yet)). So assuming 2 is not really that bad.

>>7471 I have certain motivations and can within reason guarantee who will be loyal and who will collect. Unless some random thing happens like a bomb going off over it. Thanks.

>>7475 Ok retard. Or maybe I just don't want to tell random wankers why I want to make a fuarrrking time capsule?

>>7466 What if you can write out your genetic code onto a piece of quartz? I've heard of quartz storage but never really seen it spoken about that much.

>>7531 This made me think of amber and how fossils are preserved in amber. Although I am not sure if you could make use of amber to preserve your hair/nails like how insects are preserved in it.

>>8195 How about you lick my fuarrrking sack you autistic cunt. I want to make a time capsule. Do you really need to know whatever miniscule motivation a random dude has? Maybe I just thought it would be pretty neat, maybe I want to pass on some message to my distant descendants concerning the importance of cleaning your genitals, or maybe I'm just a short attention span schizo that has no clear motivation and just knows he needs to store stuff for a long time. >Glownigger They already have the resources and smart dudes to do this if they wanted.
