Can I get some raspberry like microcomputer, and connect it to case of some old qwery phone?
I'm thinking about nokia 302.
How would one do that?
What hardware would you use if you want this keyboard, nice case (this one is ok), and linux on board?
I'm software not hardware guy, and I'd probably by able to learn how to write drivers.
And also have dozen ideas of useful software that I can I do if I had such device.
Tips?

a lot of phones have the keypad integrated into the phone main PCB, which makes tapping the button signals more difficult.
One strategy I could imagine working better is finding a "replacement" case, screen, and keypad for a phone. If you can find a phone with keypad traces are on a separate film it'd be very easy to connect to a microcomputer.

Not sure why this LARP delusion persists. Are you a /g/tard refugee with chinkpad obsession? Typing on a touch screen is faster than pocket QWERTY keyboard:
https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/fastest-typing-on-a-smartphone 4.5 char/s
https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/fastest-time-to-type-a-text-message-(sms)-on-a-touch-screen-mobile-phone/ 5.8 char/s
Additionally, you have large screen for when not using a keyboard: 99.9% of all pocket device use cases, any serious text input should be done on desk keyboard.

Directly? Probably not. You may be able to adapt it with a microcontroller tough. I remember a project for converting a thinkpad's keyboard to usb using an arduino.

If that's the case it may be easier to just get a phone that can be fitted with a keyboard phone case. Keyboard phone cases are basically same as old sliding keyboards on phones but work independently. I think they usually connect with blutooth but i assume some may be able to be wired in.

Touchscreens are dystopian as touching your screen is retarded and also it was a gimmick and feature creep.
Not OP though but attaching an external keyboard ends up being too clunky and also not wired of which is also dystopian in it's own way, wireless is. Another battery to worry about for no reason.
Also it's called art. That's why people want to do it. Not everyone freaks out if the super computer in their pocket isn't a black square that spies on them all day. In fact some freak out if it is spying on them... obviously. Are you to solder the sat. off it's insides to get rid of the issue and root it and use the bluetooth keyboard in such a way that you remove the lithium bat. and solder it up to some external power source of which is powered by the phone itself thus making it less dystopian? If so, you know it's going to be clunky while looking just like every other umpc clamshell laptop or an ugly sort of look like a pocketchip or clockworkpi umpc more likely due to the screen being wide. Maybe a usb splitter would make powering the keyboard simple but then how do you power the 'phone' now? It'd have to come apart most likely if you jigsaw something like that together and at that point indeed you are left with a 'phone' and didn't get away from 'phone's nor learn anything as the OP wanted to do. They're never small and also wired is why such people wish to do this is the entire point.
People like sleek things. If not we'd have old x86 computers in our pockets the size of gamecubes and just have a really big pocket for it. Why not? It's only going to be 10ish lbs and humans weight 200+ anyway now days.
Anyway, stop using the word larp wrong whilst psychologically projecting on top of using larp wrong.

I'd write serious, and longer answer latter. I always thank for years that people in internet are retarded as fuarrrk, because whatever would you ask, they would change topic to what they know and ask you if you aren't asking for something else than you just asked. I hated internet in 1999 because of that, but if my elaboration would get me closer to answer then ok, I'd write more latter on

Who gives a soykaf? It's a cool technology project. If you are not going to say something useful, what are you doing here?

Yea, he missed a point, maybe even haven't used such phone too much when they were popular.
Like, dude you said
>touch screen are faster!
huh? Write what you have faster at touch screen without looking at "keyboard" man, and then nobody would have problem with what you wrote.
Anyway it's not reason to fight, at least he posted great webm that I enjoyed and describes well why writing on pc > writing on mobile device.
And motivated me to answer with OC meme >>7392 which I'm even little proud of.
I think that such devecie may be perfect pilot.
For exemple for android TV where you want to look at TV not keyboard.
You can easily use joystick as a mouse.
You can use it to remotely control your PC.
Buttons on the edges can be ussd to zoom in and zoom out screen around cursor to make you able to see whole full HD scaled to your screen or even zoomed square that is 1px to 1px same on phone on tv/pc and my device.
It doesn't have touch screen, so you can use it for week straight easily without charging.
It would have microphone and, speakers and jack output.
Which would make it perfect match with open source voice assistant called MyCroft.
Which would make it ultra cool pilot to control your smart house.
It may be connected to starlink Internet or have LTE/5G modem. And it still would last a week without charging.
It would have VoIP client so you may just use this as a phone, and LTE modem as source of Internet and then VPN and other funny tools to hide your ass.
I see real ocean of possibilities.

There is a project like that using a blackberry Q10 keyboard.
There are others like CHIP that had the micro built in to the keyboard, and also 3d printed cases using the rasberry as in attached image.

There was a lot of work on the Q10 keyboard project, and I've not checked up on it in a couple of years.
There was a French guy making a full PCB for components back then.
Catching up....so might as well share...
Early last year, keyboard breakouts available:

I really love those keyboards, i wish i had one of these.
I got some old nokia e7x phones, those are great but seems i cant flash them.

Playing retro j2me on touch screen is sadness.
>>7353
Should be easy to map out the buttons.
>>7394
Touch typing is less fatiguing. You can't type easily when it's dark with hardware qwerty, maybe with t9 yes it's doable eyes are closed. It's how I used to write down dreams in a journal.
There's lots of these wireless keyboards same as the second pic but I know
>wireless
It still looks cool if you're only using it for navigation and not use it for sensitive input, interestingly they also use those old nokia lithium batteries which is pretty much available everywhere.
>>7354
Why not both?
Hardware Qwerty is too bulky and it's like they don't exist but it usually lacks buttons and even space
Software Qwerty is flexible but not tactile enough
There's also keyboard covers out there (third pic) that interacts with touch screens since a touch screen is a huge sensor and you can just build an app to interact with the keyboard if you make one yourself.

The shells of older electronics are useful since there's no moores law for handheld form factor. Just keep them until the consumer sbc and battery market gets a lot better, you can use the shells and replace the internals with totally free open source hardware and software components.
