Raspberry Pi 4 and so on
Linda Lee · 2020-09-05 02:47
I stumbled on this board a long time ago. I recently set up my first Raspberry Pi 4 computer. Would have been a plan B project if my sisters diabetes system stopped working. Primary system is operational. So, I get to mess around with this one. Anyone got any suggestions for projects? I was curious about robots or AI companions. However, anything similarly whack are fun topics. Please share ideas or general Rpi stuff n pics.

That is pretty cool. Have been thinking of making a project myself. Need to get my life in order first though!

we already have a raspberry thread

So you use it as a little lainchan larping device while in bed? Cute
Maybe I should get a screen for it. How do you have the Pi connected, is it just off to the side?
I like lying on my side and just watching videos so maybe this would be nice for me.
How much did the Pi + Screen cost you?

This so much.
This entire board has gone to sh1t with nu-lainon OPs constantly making a new threads to massage their egos. They neither use the catalog to look for the relevant thread, or consider they are killing quality low speed threads when doing so.

Don't

Really, there's only so much you can do with a pi and every possibility has been discussed longer than it should be. You can use your raspberry for and endless number of tasks and it won't excel at any of them. Common things are
> home server
> status display for something that doubles as homeserver
and that's pretty much it. Throw ddclient on it, get a domain and set up wireguard. Access your anime collection of questionable quality and taste from around the world!
Also what >>5172 says, lurk more next time

Basically this, I had 3 pi's doing different soykaf on my network and they all became useless once I got decent hardware to run proxmox. I only use one, which is in my backpack with a usb nic, usb gps receiver and an external sata ssd (hooked up to a ghetto ass diy powerbank). Most of the time I use it for wardriving war walking, rather, but it's come in handy as a portable file server too.
>inb4 wardriving is for skids and noobs
I don't care, it's fun for me
sage because this thread shouldn't exist

>lots of peripherals, yay
>lakka isn't bloatware but hardly runs
>raspbian even worse
>can hardly open a book file, lakka hardly snes, missing layers on mario kart, megaman x, etc
>find picore
>>maybe this will work out!
>tfw trying to install the wifi modules from the tar for days so can install gui after doing so

and yes it's' a w version, I've used the bloatware raspbian lite before to install a firefox version, bastardization of a gui, and browse the Internet before just to make sure it could. My spare sd is only 4gb and can't even fit their gui version of raspian though, and systemd is bloat anyway. Picore looked nice to make it pda tier with the peripherals I bought, a real nice overpriced and over-designed book reader, or mp4 player cyberdeck tier thingy I would make.

I want to make a router out of a board like the pi, is it doable?
There's a LTE HAT and 4G modules that go in, plug it through one of the opensource router fws, tomato or ddwrt, that's connectivity. I also want to run DNS through pi.hole directly on it.
Is the single gigabit ethernet port a problem? Can all this be routed through efficiently or will it be overloading the board since its not optimised?

Yes. RockPro64 has PCIe.

If you have friends or family you love or still go outside despite the fact that a security camera might take your picture in 2021, you are LARPing. That's what Lain means.

is the pi zero meant to be used as graphical environment?
I have some but they are intended as like little temperature/humidity sensor relays and stuff.

I take it this was a joke but have you considered a few servo motors acting as a respirator/CPAP system or maybe a micropipetting station?

It's not meant to be a daily driver but you CAN put raspbup (puppylinux for the little arm devices and works on 0 and up) and also other OS's like raspbian work on it with the gui installed. It's just very very slow. I hate retropie and torture myself with lakka off and on is my issue. Last I fixed it gba got broken as the night version is all that works with composite video out and it was broken in night version. After buying all of the peripherals you may as well have bought a better pi unless your device is very very small. I tried picore to try to make it a fast book reader plus retro gaming emulator but it was not worth the effort to even bother fixing the gba when it lags, though it should not lag with it's hardware. Retropie set up properly won't lag it and it works with composite out, I tested it on my zero. If you so much as try to load youtube or solve google captcha your pi can't do that as I tried that years ago in the lowest quality video and it was very choppy and the captcha kept reloading as slow as it solved it also. It CAN use the Internet though, technically. I could probably post here just fine, use a paint application, listen to music, watch a movie while crying as it refuses to listen to my pressing pause and such, etc.
But yeah, aside from picore or something else with no systemd you don't really want to try using the pi zero. It pretty much has mostly bloatware of which it can't handle with it's specs even though technically software is there.

No he did not mean that nor does your nor his post actually make logical sense.
