This is probably more /biz/ related but how would I begin to make a mechanical keyboard for mass production?

Good place to start. Do you want the keyboard to be plug and play. Or are you ok with selling it as a kit. Cause if you sell it as a kit, you have a lot less complicated production processes to worry about, and I think it also gets you around a bunch of regulation.

After that. The hardest part is probably gonna be the case. You should think about how to do that. Some pieces of cnc'd / lacer cut stacked plates from something like plexiglass is probably gonna be the easyest to produce.
Basically. If you want to be up and running fast without much back and forth with china, start thinking about manifacturers that you can just sent some design files which they can basically just print, like how you would make pcb's. And for things like laser cutting stuff, you can probably also find companies on alibaba. But if you really need something to be assembled you gotta start actually thinking about talking to people in (probably) china which is gonna be a lot of work and really expensive, same goes for stuff like injection molding, I am pretty sure.

Depends what you want to do. If you want to make it a business you'll need manufacturing equipment and so forth. If this is for everyone to use "for free" (diy at home), then find a good design for the average joe to 3d print and put together at home.
Make a design that is modular, robust, and minimalist (within reason). Could you tell us a little but more, OP? Your first post didnt tell us too much about your plans.

My original thought was just to make a keybaord for myself as I find prices for them to be stupid for something I'm not 100% happy with but then I though about putting it on kickstarter to see if other like minded ppeople would give me me money so I don't have to lose my own.
