winter time capsule guy

Shogun · 2019-05-29 18:14
Where did you go, time capsule guy? You posted about making a time capsule and burying it over the winter. How did it go? Would you be willing to post updates on the project?

>>3116 Here I was, coming back to Lainchan to make a thread about this very thing. You're calling me out OP. So I I never buried it. Before winter I put together a pile of different file types, .TXT, .PDF, .JPG, .GIF, .WEBM, other stuff, and then I was going to put it all in a thumbdrive, a DVD (maybe a floppy disk?) and a CD and put them inside some junk containers that would be available to someone who is in a shitty dystopian future and needed to hide some data fast. I meant to find a day when I would be able to hop on the bus with a shovel and go bury it. But school and sudden joblessness got in the way, and then winter hit and the groud froze. So I could only wait for spring. Spring is here now, so let's do it. I plan to bury it somewhere in this nature preserve here. https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/43.6828/-70.3058 There are a couple parts that are kind of big blobs with no trails through them, in the middle of them is an ideal spot. A plastic peanut butter jar takes decades to rot, and a metal coffee can will protect it further. That's where I am. What do you think?

>>3126 Here's my capsule as it is now.

A glass jar would last longer, especially if it was one of those old fashioned rubber-sealed ones.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2019-05-31 16:56
>>3129 That's true. And the tin can around it would keep it from being broken.
Bobby Newmark · 2019-06-01 05:31
>>3126 I appreciate you updating us on your time capsule project. I feel satisfied because the lingering questions were resolved. What do you think about coolers like pic related in terms of their sturdyness and availability? I think that coolers are far too valuable to be buried in the ground as they're well insulated and extremely resistant to crushing, water intrusion, but if I was stashing something super important I would use a cooler.
Unspecified · 2019-06-01 05:36
>>3132 I have literally never owned one of these but lol yes. They're made for keeping food cold and are good at that. One might work but the sliding top part is not exactly a real seal. Dirt would get in.
Special Agent Bob · 2019-06-01 08:02
Why not just put it in a glass jar, inside of a tin jar, inside of a cooler box.
John Doe · 2019-06-01 18:31
>>3126 You really don't have to bury it in order to accomplish the same basic thing. Look into spy caches, especially Cold War-era tech. You could put it in a fake rock or whatever, really. >>3132 >I feel satisfied because the lingering questions were resolved. NVC isn't excellent for anonymity, Rosenberg lainon.
Batou · 2019-06-02 07:04
A lot of the image files I'm using for this are just random very very small files from my downloads folder. >>3134 I was kind of planning on that, minus the cooler since I don't have one.

Yamaoto Toshi · 2020-09-30 06:53
>>5154 It's almost been a year. I buried it in early December.
Jet Black · 2020-10-21 04:07
It's so close. I really want to dig it up again. Just a couple more months.
Judge Fang · 2020-12-05 13:43
It is almost time to dig it up!
Dr. X · 2020-12-21 18:07
>>5732 any updates?
Splicer · 2020-12-22 09:25
Imagine thinking burying anything for less than 100 years constitutes a "time capsule". Anything less is a broom closet retards.
Splicer · 2020-12-22 13:00
>>5796 lol fr the files are probably still on his pc
Hitomi · 2020-12-22 14:27
>>5796 I'm pretty sure they said it was a test in a previous thread. Obviously nobody cares about a bunch or random files from 12 months ago, that's not the point.
Jens Hansen · 2020-12-26 01:46
>>5796 Are they trying to test to see if their time capsule won't just let it's contents be destroyed by doing a short run?
HELIOS · 2021-01-05 09:29
>>5816 Yes, that was the intent.
Case · 2021-01-12 08:44
>>5913 I now have the time capsule! I went back to the forest, dug it up and brought it home! I have a bunch of stuff I had to get done for work, but once I am done that I will inspect it.
