>>3123 100% trash. An $80 drill press from Hazard Fraught (or way better and possibly cheaper if you go second-hand, look online for estate sales and recent divorces) can make a FAR better gun just as easily. 3d printers are great tools for specific things, but people act like it's a magic shortcut around craftsmanship. Still requires effort and learning and practice and handiwork, but at the end the product is far worse. Drilling and milling and boring are easy and youtubable. Making a one-shot zip gun (one shot as in no magazine, just a chamber--unlike 3d printing, it will survive multiple uses) can also be done with black pipe and a shotgun shell and a nail, but making one on a drill press is way easier than you or any regulator would like to think. Probably just as ludicrously illegal too.

I've always been interested in this subject. I never got my hands dirty though because I couldn't find good barrel material but I recently bought a couple of surplus SMGs to play around with, so having magazines and barrels I know are OK should let me focus on just the receiver and bolt for the time being. >>3725 not him but our coins were magnetic up until we switched to euros so it's possible but maybe not with pennies.
Drifter · 2019-11-11 18:31
>>3725 Nope, doesn't need to be ferromagnetic! Railguns operate on the principle of the Lorentz force, and the current flowing through the system induces a magnetic field that allows any conductive projectile to be accelerated. There's plenty of penny railguns out there, and in fact copper or aluminum might be among the most ideal projectile materials available to an amateur. You're gonna want as much current as possible, so you're gonna want as few ohms as possible. Of course a penny isn't pure copper, so could probably do better. A coil gun does need a magnetic projectile, since in that setup the projectile is not part of the circuit and only passively receives the magnetic fields created by the coils around it.

>>3115 typically they are not 40% lowers, they are 80%. >>3657 that design is OLD now. Obviously you can't really 3d print pressure bearing parts. But, at least in the USA (God bless) many handguns only have the frame actually considered a firearm. so you can actually print that part in PLA or nylon, and easily acquire the upper parts without a waiting period. The FGC-9 should be coming out soon. the majority of it can be 3d printed in PLA. even the shell extractor. The parts that must be metal will obviously be the barrel, firing pin, etc. they are using something called electrochemical machining to make the barrel. you need a steel tube, and a 3d printed jig which you wind a wire around. then, a power supply and saltwater solution. the jig can produce rifled barrels pretty quickly. >>3683 can't wait for it to come out... might modify the buttstock to look a bit more like the m7 submachine gun from halo so I can LARP at home.
Nobody special · 2019-11-28 11:36
Aside from the ones already in this thread, there are plenty of other ways to manufacture firearms, You can easily make homemade firearms with basic machining skills, and with the availability of parts that are unregulated, there is really not that great of a hurdle for beginners. 3D is a meme that serves only very niche purposes, and most of the items can be made using other materials. It seems a little overrated imo, but if 3D printers were farther ahead, I think it would be really cyberpunk. I have seen epoxy AR15 components made using simple casting/molding methods that you would use to duplicate objects, if you have one AR15, you can make unlimited lowers by just duplicating the original and casting it in epoxy by using a mold and some hobby store materials. The other part is that you can basically apply these principles with a number of materials, you could even make parts out of some kind of lightweight material and then make a mold and duplicate them out of stronger materials. Reminder that in many places you still need to have a certain amount of metal in a firearm for it to be legal.
Arisu Mizuki · 2019-12-03 05:01
>>3765 it's not really a meme. you can make all non-pressure bearing components. and by pressure I mean the pressure generated by firing the round and those gases. the barrel, firing pin, springs, screws etc. are all metal. IIRC you need 4 ounces for it to be legal. no doubt you would be legal just doing it normally.
Hitomi · 2019-12-03 05:11
>>3759 Whoa. Using an electrochemical process to create rifling instead of a reamer or internal milling is very interesting. You can use a drill press or lathe to do that by purchasing a cheap reaming attachment, might arguably be easier and better—but definitely more accessible if you don't need any tools aside from the ones you're already using.

>>4343 The primer blatantly can't be made from scratch is the issue. Not them. I'd have to use strike on anything matches or something very dangerous and paper wadded bullets like they did in the old west. People do that, and use also those toy 'snap' guns that have little primers in them, but if you run out you can't just go outside and make it yourself. They need stuff like silver compounds. You can get the saltpeter from piss, the charcoal from overly baked wood, the sulfur from a volcano or car battery acid I guess, but you can't get the primer to set off the gunpowder you made. You'd have to ideally in this day and age try to set it off with an electrical shock, but it'd probably break every time you fired it. Unless it's like a fire shot into a hole perfectly. A taser type ignition would break I imagine super fast. So what shoots the fire into the hole? Moonshine that you made into a tiny flame thrower to ignite the bullet from thew inside via some piston of booze being pressed into the chamber by an elaborate system of some kind? Booze you can make easier than gun powder so it could be used like an igniter. But how complicated suddenly would a zip gun have to be to even reliably use a flame thrower mechanism to ignite bullets? I suppose you'd just have really sturdy electrical shocking mechanisms with no booze flame mechanism instead. But it'd probably either have way too many batteries or have to charge a capacitor before it shocked the powder enough to fire if there's no primary explosion of any kind nor ignition mechanism. You know, Da Vinci made steam canons. Really I guess if you made these things huge it'd matter more that you only got one shot off. It'd be highly illegal though, but still. They let people make these guns for a reason. They don't matter as they are.

>>4353 Are primers part of gun bans around the world though? Okay, I would see how bullet casings are, I would see how bullet itself is, but primers? On the idea of shocking a bullet to make its propellant ignite, it is pretty easy and I remember seeing some multi bullet systems where bullets are stacked one after another in the barrel and just rip through in rates unseen by any machine gun
Vasya Pupkin · 2020-04-09 11:44

>>4356 Oh no doubt, but civilization going away COMPLETELY? In one fashion or another it will be left either in shambles or broken, but gone away completely not. Even after a pandemic that is worse than this one and deadly than this one. Even after nuclear armagedon. Even after martial law and chipped people. Humanity perseveres and guns could still be made in one fashion or another. I would argue that today it is much easier than few years back, and partially that is due to fine people like yourself and me that get really scared of "soykaf hits the fan" scenarios. Don't get me wrong, thinking about extracting urea from piss and acid from batteries is good and should be compiled in one PDF for everyone to see... but I want to look into more practical stuff for pure "what is best course of action now so that SHTF scenarios don't even come about". The FGC-9 accepts commercial Glock magazines and 3D-printable "Menendez Magazines." The only equipment needed are a 3D-printer, a stick welder, a power drill, and a power supply. The only part you're not able manufacture from the included files is the fire control group. But no need to be distraught! An AR-15 or modified airsoft fire control group can be used. Especially when lower receivers on ARs hardly take any stress at all. People with printed glocks have no trouble shooting them like a normal glock anyway. bringing a black powder gun to a gunfight is many times less practical than if you brought a 3d printed 9mm carbine. an FGC-9 will have similar muzzle energy, except it's got 3 points of contact, it's relatively lightweight, you can fire shots in rapid succession, it has a longer sight radius, it can be suppressed, and you can easily have 30 round mags ready to go. black powder weapons don't even come close.

Injection molding seems pretty conceptually simple, for instance. Boris Grishenko · 2020-08-14 02:13
I wish I knew how to make a primer but this is the info I've gathered for when I buy some replica of a colt walker 1847 .44 revolver. Lead, paper, many different powders to choose from, but all those substances for primary explosions are so overwhelming. So is the urine to saltpeter technique that is meant to take months. Firing pins or the hammer or whatever ought to just be electrified and turn the handle and trigger and all rubber. If you ask me. The issue of primers has always made my head spin as to why people refused to change ammo. Then again I guess it's because it's deliberately hard is why they never stopped using this cartridge with two explosive types in it. >the replica is 450 usd alone Oh I hate this. By the by, supposedly felons can buy black powder muzzleloading type guns so long as they're very old, in some usa states. My mother kept complaining that she can't have one near her so I went and learned they'd probably not stop me from getting that in my state (Florida). It has so many bad laws you can't even order a baton where I live and no one sells one anymore but gun stores online, so I figure even if I can own a real gun some statute will stop me from having a real gun at this address. Beyond all of that, I like stuff like solar panels and botany due to how self sufficient it is, and bullets are an issue. If the rednecks or cops come for me when I end up in the woods finally, as a forever neet, then I'd like to not have to use a silly crossbow. So I made and packed up note related. Maybe I should just get like six flintlock pistols instead and hope the spark flies true and toss the things as I shoot them. Pirates did that. From what I've seen of ferro rods being a pain to spark I wonder how well that even works. You have to trail the powder near the thing. I bet you have to basically button mash it. Anyway, other than matchlock I can't imagine making a gun and the powder from scratch in the woods with nothing but pipes and a forge. I wish primers weren't m3g4-g4y.

My landlord had a no-guns policy, and I just left them in my closet under a pile of laundry - this was not very responsible, but technically not illegal Black powder fall under a different legal classification, so in almost every state, an 18 y/o can by a BP revolver and carry it in a hip holster. https://www.ubertireplicas.com/product-category/firearms/black-powder-firearms/ This company makes a lot of cheaper options. >>4631 Using epoxy to replicate an existing firearm can be used to easily make parts, youtube used to have a bunch of videos on making epoxy lower AR receivers in clear epoxy with lots of glitter that are just as good as normal poly-lowers. If you have a 3d printer, you could print the components you want, then use some kind of high strength epoxy to duplicate it in a mold. Spare parts are also unregulated, so the hardest part is making one or two that are generally assigned serial numbers. The 80% thing was cool for a while until certain internet groups started advocating their use as a means to make firearms for nefarious purposes. Now some states regulate the sale of anything called "80%" The only things you want to use metal for sure on are pressure bearing or load bearing components. Legally speaking, you usually MUST include some metal, but that is a trivial matter when it comes to placing metal reinforcing plates (which will satisfy the requirement). An interesting proof of concept that Interpol has a hard time tracking are converted front firing blank pistols (also generally unregulated) and less than 100 Euro https://medium.com/war-is-boring/converted-prop-guns-are-assassins-weapon-of-choice-2bdacf5c3959

Unless mercury II fulminate is mercuric fulminate. But anyway...I'm no chemist. >>4970 I want to make the percussion caps myself from scratch so I'm trying to memorize words and meanings of words like phosphorus (with sulfur on it) (the matches stuff) or mercuric fulminate (wikipedia's primer example) for primary explosive then realizing that it's probably not possible to extract it while living in the woods in full hermit mode. Electric I'd probably be forced to go with. By force in such a scenario. Uberti is not as cheap as Pietta I'm seeing. https://www.ccsutlery.com/store/revolver-1851-navy-brass-44.html How come uberti doesn't list prices there? I guess they vary too much? I've seen a revolver for 75 usd once, a bp one, in a pawn shop and figure online too many of such prices would be 'sniped'. Probably wasting my time researching online prices as a neet really, especially with the whole FFL and sending it to a local business regardless of what I'll likely be able to find. Anyway, I'm mostly interested in the idea of creating primers from scratch right now myself, barring the shock it route. I wonder how bad an actual flintlock revolver would perform though I'm sure they were never a popular option for reason. Shout out to ferro rods for being absolute garbage by the way at making sparks. I'd like to think flint works better like a lighter but ferro rods need to be derezzed seriously. Though it's neither here nor there. >>4968 Some people claim it's regulated to where you can send it to your door if your state doesn't consider it a firearm. One site I found has them in a non-firing state where you have to drill a hole to make sure you can order them to your door, but they were 'pirate pistols' rather than the 'old west' percussion caps types. About it being too expensive, as least (my usa perspective) they're not all sold out like normal cheap guns. I found a 90s tier site (as in it's web design) (that hates copyright infringement of it's guns images) that has some for 241 usd. Image related. Ripped off from the site. Not that I know if they're trust worthy or if an FFL is really needed or not. I think it depends on the state and I'm no lawyer (nothing really, a neet...). I'd list the site but that'd be advertising people I don't like and you're probably not going to care either way, but they're not always that expensive with picture related being 241 currently, and some Asian on youtube claimed it was 140ish when he bought it like five years ago from those people, but on sale. It has a safety where you lock the thing in place mid-bullet. They're kinda nice of which is probably why they're so expensive. Wait another guy listed a site so I may as well: https://www.ccsutlery.com/store/revolver-1851-navy-brass-44.html Like five years ago myself I saw a ball and cap (bp, whatever) revolver in a pawn shop for 75 usd myself. Online I'm sure is not the way to go for guns... .unfortunately.

>flintlock repeaters were a thing not revolvers Ooooh. Perfection. I wonder if there even are replicas. No primer needed if it's flintlock and image related has seven shots apparently. To be truly independent and make your powder from urine basically and overly baked wood powder then with the power of flint would a zip gun truly be 'independent' of the system. No cap issue nor 'bullet' or cartridge making. IF I were to make a gun my goal would be essentially a recration of this thing, assuming they measured their own powder right and all. I figure a flint revolver would accidentally fire the wrong bullets and that's why this was made instead. This is freedom Lain unlike those other guns

Czechia based company Great Gun makes various 2 shots Derelingers for about 370 EUR. If your local law allows all types of blackpowder and want more modern design (some jurisdictions allow only replicas rendering new designs illegal w/o owner having gunsmith licnse) you can look for Gladiator .500 also from Great Gun from Czechia but price is around 640 USD. If you are into hand work - you can order assemble it yourself type kits like picrel. That may eventually allow you to bypass regulations on seller not being allowed to send you a working gun. Especially if seller would agree to split that kit into multiple parts. But check your local laws first.

Only the 3d-printed Liberator can be made by a housewife in Singapore, but she won't be able to get ammunition... FGC-9 seems to be the best one today, but it pretends to be a real firearm too hard: incredible tolerances, requires you to buy M4 buffer spring, glock spring for mags, whole damn fire control group, you have to weld the bolt and the barrel is made out of very specific "please trace every purchase of this item, Our Protectors" 16 OD 8 ID hydraulic tubing. Just the act of purchasing this pile of awkward items must raise so many flags in a totalitarian gun-restrictive government you better invest into digging your own grave instead. Can you imagine a housewife in Singapore buying an M4 buffer spring and hydraulic tubing out of nowhere, then welding some stuff her apartment? Welding emits so much EM interference I'd be tracing every use of welding in my Singapore, if I was its government. Why do most of these even pretend to be "real guns", can't you make 100% electrically-operated mechanism that would pull the round out of spring-less magazine, chamber, lock, fire, extract? The only metal parts you'll need then are the barrel, breechblock, firing pin and something to hold it all together. Motors can be salvaged from children toys. It would also reduce all the tolerance issues and would force-extract your soykaf handmade rounds that failed to fire on the next cycle. It can have a manual lever for bolt-action like operation if you expect to ever run out of battery charge in Singapore.

Many early firearms were DIY projects made by every day machinists, not arms manufacturing conglomerates. >>6902 I'm always glad to help! Most of the questions I get asked are how to make their AR-15s look edgy so they can make liberals seethe. Few people actually ask technical questions, and while I have never built a homebrew firearm, I have always been fascinated by the inventors that do. Pipe guns are easy to build, and are probably a little safer depending on what your goal is. They can be built for as little as $25US and use conventional shotgun shells. Pic rel would be fairly easy to build, and I would assume that the trigger releases a sear which allows the bolt/firing pin to fly forward. A system like that could be converted to full auto as a matter of theory, but like most things, legality and safety are probably important to the would be inventor. The important part would be to get the bolt to lock so it contains the pressure of your cartridge. I have a few ideas on how that could be done. The alternative would be that you make a striker fired shotgun as opposed to hammer fired. If you are building your own gun, using a striker (trigger releases firing pin) might be easier than building a hammer (trigger releases hammer which applies force to a firing pin).

Tech board has a Lainon who is into making homemade laser guns and various exotics. This is his supposed channel and it has a cool demonstration of a weaponized laser. https://youtu.be/WRtfafllKqs I find it quite inspiring. It can also help start campfires if you don't want to rub wood together or don't have any flint.

>>7487 >Lainon making homemade laser guns that pol-user who schizoposts and attaches batteries to off the shelf laser modules and acts like he "builds unique and special lethal weapons" isn't dong anything special. In fact, people like him are the reason that lasers went from being an acceptable hobby technology to being highly regulated because too many people were buying high powered lasers just to use them as weapons. Half the websites that sell lasers in the USA no longer sell certain kinds of handhelds. On a separate note, lasers for fire starting is pretty lame, just carry a lighter, they don't cost +100$ >>7159 Inspire also caters towards lone wolves and sometimes analyzes terror attacks and how they could have been better. It's also a good way to get yourself into a lot of trouble including being put in jail. There are plenty of academic journals and technical firearms books that don't have extremist ideologies at their root. Look up gunsmiths magazines which teach you more about the art of crafting firearms instead of cobbling together some unsafe contraption that is going to get you killed because someone said if it does you become a martyr and go to heaven. You can even do some limited gunsmith programs online or distance learning now (I can't vouch for the validity) but getting the course materials should be easy enough. For technical skills, I would recommend learning machining and metallurgy before jumping straight into guns.

>>10276 not looking like ass is certainly one lol, although there are a good few things I think are quite nice in no particular order things I find appealing over a luty are -ECM rifling -closed bolt -select fire -it has a much more reliable magazine design from the CZ scorpion -stock lmao -1913 rail for mounting soykafty amazon optics -compact pdw design -bolt weight and recoil spring rates have been played around with so that the bolt never actually contacts the back of the receiver -most importantly, it's much easier to print most of the gun and screw it together as opposed to having to weld and grind hardware store supplies

why not just make a bow or a crossbow?
Case · 2025-02-11 07:11
>>12510 Guns have good, widely available ammunition at least in civilized countries, and even not great ones can perform very well. A good crossbow still requires a lot of muscular effort or effort somewhere to recharge between shots (excluding occasional possible mechanical tricks, multiplying the complexity of the build) and ones that are very convenient and easy to use require a lot of effort to make work right, and the result is at best aspiring to achieve what any decent and relatively modern gun has by default. Bows similarly but moreso. Outside of niche use cases like being german I can't imagine why you would want to go with a bow these days. Maybe you just want a challenge.
