moped/ebike heavy post, but other velos welcome in this thread

>big heavy moped-like ebike, 40+ mile range
been thinking of doing either something like this, or a gas engine moped. what sorta specs does the components have? what is its range?, laden vs unladen?, flat terrain vs hills? etc.. you don't have to be exact, for privacy reason, i understand. i just wanna get a sense of it before i choose which way to go. strongly prefer ebike if i can use it for my longer range purposes, because laxxer regulations.
does anyone know of fast-charging for ebikes?
i sometimes see folks selling old not-working mopeds. is it worth? what to look for in such a thing before purchase? what skills are needed to make it so it works? compare with purchase engine conversion to put onto velo, turn velo into moped, is conversion worth?

Anyone have experience with 2 stroke engine conversion kits? Are they any good or too bulky and dangerous co.pared to electric?

the main problem with gas engine kits on bicycles is the law, in most places putting a gas engine on any bike means it's legally considered a motorcycle and thus it can't be ridden on bike paths, requires registration, insurance, driver's license, brake lights, turn signals, etc.
in most places e-bikes are exempt from all this and treated like bicycles as long as they can't go any faster than 20-28mph. it's kind of stupid because even bicycles with a gas engine kit can't go that much faster than an e-bike, maybe like 25-30mph with a 66cc engine, they're not really much more dangerous than an e-bike, they're just very loud which actually makes them a lot safer because people can hear them and notice them when they are nearby.
it kind of is like kicking dead whales down the beach that the law is this way because a bicycle modded with a gas engine is a lot more reliable and maintainable than an e-bike - if part of a gas engine breaks or wears out you can probably fix it yourself, whereas with an e-bike you have a sealed brushless motor and lithium battery pack and neither of those things you can really fix or maintain yourself, you just have to throw them out and buy new ones when they wear out.

I would think it more likely would count as a moped not a motorcycle as long as the engine cc is not too much and it does not exceed a certain speed limit.

personally I do dislike going for a recreational walk and then having someone blast past engine roaring. But you do have a point, maybe recreational areas should either have speedlimits or just be offlimits to motorized bikes in general.

Love for bicycles \o/
In the market for a new folding bike for some multi-modal transit. Trying to avoid shelling out on a brompton but also wary of how cheap a lot of the folding e-bikes look/feel.
Probably going to just end up restoring a $50 street bike anyways like always. Just in time for summer.

i see people riding bicycles like this sometimes, and i very often see adults riding normal bicycles with the saddle slammed all the way down like kids do because they never learned how to get on/off a bike the correct way, and i don't know how they can stand it because if i ride a bicycle and my legs can't fully extend when i'm pedaling and they're all scrunched up the whole time, it will destroy my knees. i learned this when i first started riding again as an adult, i slammed the saddle down like i did when i was a kid and after like an hour of riding like that i could barely walk my legs were so stiff and sore.

I wish there were more ebikes out there with drop bars, for some reason (I'm guessing it makes the controls more difficult to set up?) they're quite unobtainium and what is there on the market is only class 1 or so.

On the less-expensive-than-brompton side, I've had for years a Decathlon folding bike, that sill holds up pretty well. Bought it of the same purpose as you. I don't know if those are accessible in your country though, but a model like the Tilt 120 B’Twin has always been fine, and can still be found 2nd hand around.
