I have an idea, the idea is to take a GBA and the GBA IR sensor and the EZ flash omega and write code for it to make the IR sensor do things like turn a tv on or off as well as flip through channels and maybe send or receive data to other more advance devises as a potential alternative way of communication.
the thing is, is it doable or am I just wasting my time?

sounds like it's very hard.
AFAIK, old consoles tend to have complicated architecture

It's probably possible. The GB and GBC are well documented on https://gbdev.gg8.se/wiki/ but I don't know of a similar ressource for the GBA.

The IR output might be too weak on a GBA. I remember mine never working unless it was right up next to the receiver. But I was also a child then so maybe I'm misremembering.

There are a lot of good homebrew and romhacking resources now. If the IR transmitter is strong enough it probably wouldn't be that hard to do.

I've thought of doing this with dslite, psp, or maybe even 3ds. I'm still learning, but intend on doing it one day.
