admittedly coming from someone with no skills in anything this sounds incredibly stupid but it's an idea i've had for years and just never acted on. either bear with me or take this with a heap of salt, your choice.
the general concept would be a board of two switches and two buttons, as shown in the schematic. the purpose of this is so that i can access the power controls of my two computers without having to crouch down under my desk or reach over my monitor. S1 and S2 would go to the AC inputs to the PSUs of both computers (to fully disable them), and S3 and S4 would go to the power buttons of both computers to turn them off to restart them without cutting power.
to answer some questions before you ask them:
>why not just restart/power off from OS?
this would only be used in the event of bluescreening or if the computer becomes inoperable in some capacity.
>you said you didn't have skills in anything?
what i mean by that is that im not on the same level of intelligence as anyone else on this webiste, i know how to solder and i know some basic fabrication stuff
>this seems really impractical, why are you even posting it here and asking us if it would be possible?
this isn't nessecarily supposed to be a serious project, i just like the idea of wiring and circuitry and diagrams and schematics and stuff, im trying to learn and make something cool, not make something serious and solely utilitarian.
Schematic Notes:
- the batteries connected to S3 and S4 are meant to represent the boards in the computers containing the power buttons
- these are all basically extensions of the switches and buttons found in the computers themselves all in one place, the ac sources most likely wont be cut from the power cord itself, they would be from the switch in the PSU
