How to Cut Your own Hair Get a decent pair of scissors. That's all you need. No mirror is used because everything is done by touch. This guide assumes you are right-handed. Take off your clothes and get in the shower or tub. Hold the scissors in your right hand. Use both hands to grab a big handful of hair and straighten it out well by pulling it upwards away from your scalp. Grasp the base of this handful of hair with the first two fingers of your left hand. Make sure that the bottom finger is firmly against your scalp. Some of the hair will stick out above your two fingers. Cut off all of the hair that sticks out above your two fingers. Be careful not to nick your fingers when doing this. Repeat all over your head until no more hair is long enough to stick out above your two fingers. Be thorough. That's it. Pick up all of the loose hair and throw it away, Turn on the water and wash off any loose hair. You will be amazed how good this looks, like a professional haircut. It's actually pretty hard to do it wrong. I've been cutting my own hair this way for years, and it works great. I don't recommend trying to do any trimming around the ears or neckline, because it's very easy to screw up. But if you insist, you can do this by touch, too, using your ears as a guide, or your straightened-out hand as a guide in the back on the neckline.

It is easy if you just have long hair. All you have to remember is not cut flatly across unless you want a blunt cut, you normally hold the hair and cut with the tips of the scissors.
