Anti-Aging DIY

Liet Kynes · 2023-12-28 16:12
The average life expectancy in my home country is around 78 years for men and 83 years for women. Living longer has long been the norm in industrialized countries. But 78 years is too short for me and many people feel the same way. I would rather prefer 150+. For example, Sam Altman recently invested 180 million dollars in a start-up that promises an extra 10 healthy years, Peter Thiel is investing in "young blood", i.e. blood from young people that is injected into old people to achieve a rejuvenating effect. What are Laion's tips for living longer and healthier? Standard tips are intermittent fasting, exercise, vegetables and a small amount of nuts every day. Will we be able to replicate future therapies based on immunosuppressants ourselves? If so, how complex is that? Are there any interesting studies that show how you can effectively prolong your life?

>>11168 Yeah, you've pretty much got it there. Exercise every day; eat no ultra-processed foods with an emphasis on IF/keto; be in a slightly physically uncomfortable temperature most of the time (bonsai effect); go outside and get some sunshine every day, but not so much as to get skin cancer (this varies depending on your skin pigmentation and local climate); don't drink or smoke; and do not live under constant emotional stress. All of that ought to squeeze an additional 10 years out of your lifespan. Becoming a ghoul or a vampire damns your soul, btw. Don't recommend it.
John Rain · 2023-12-29 12:10
>>11168 prrevention >>>>> trying to repair damage Simplest hard to follow one is avoid sugar. Sugar causes inflammation which causes all kinds of bad. The alternatives arent better either. Anything sweetener used comes with publications on some negative side effects. Next is stress =aging. You can do the buddhism thing as in if you cant change situation change how you thing about it to avoid stressing over. A linked topic is telomere shortening which are safety caps on your dna. Of corse the superior choice is simply to remove yourself from stressful situations whenever possible.
Ivan Petrov · 2023-12-29 15:34
Thanks for the suggestions. Avoiding emotional stress is currently something I simply do not understand how people do it. Perhaps I am an idiot. I am working as a researcher and have many freedoms, but you always have the pressure to publish or perish. I also did some meditation a while back but I do not see how it actual helps me. Besides another interesting direction I read about is Rapamycin/Sirolimus as an anti-aging drug. But currently they only did trials with mice and fruit flies. The dog experiments are announced since 2016, but nothing is done till date. For the sugar issue, are there some good tricks how to acclimate my taste to "boring" food? I mean everyone of us knows munchies.

Quit as nearly completely as you can for a bit, and then add a little back if you want to at some later time, and itll probably seem to go a good deal farther. And maybe play around with cooking and cooking well, if you're into cooking that is. Food can be good, find some things you like and maybe read some serious cookbook about how to do them correctly, this can make quite a taste difference for all sorts of dishes.
Dr. X · 2023-12-29 21:03
>>11173 After two to three weeks of a ketogenic diet your tastebuds sort of "reset" and everything tastes sweeter. The effect on the palate is like cutting down on salt or quitting smoking. You'll find that the sweetness of a piece of fruit knocks you out and actual sucrose will taste cloyingly awful.

>>11173 You can only reduce stress by living a privileged, good life without struggle. Everyone wants that already.
Nemissa · 2023-12-30 03:34
>>11173 Its not just a matter of amount. Effective digestion is affected by the form. Fruits have sugar but fiber reduces digestion rate. So drinking apple juice is a lot worse than eating an apple. And what you really want to avoid is hfc cause the modified fructose/glucose ratio bypasses the system that's evolutionary used to digest a 1:1 ratio and only measures glucose since that's sufficient when you only encounter 1:1. >>11180 avoidable stress regardless of wealth: Binging bad news and stressing over the evils of the world. Getting mad with high blood pressure over losing in online-games. Had a friend accidentally verify the latter cause they had a heart monitor on him and that thing freaked out when he played games cause he always got incredible mad while losing a match. In general there is a lot where you can do a sanity check and ask yourself is it even worth getting mad over?

>But 78 years is too short for me and many people feel the same way. I would rather prefer 150+. Damb, why tho? Most people seem tired of life by the time they're fifty. Do you want to be one of those freaks that spends every waking moment optimizing their life so they can be as ultra-super-healthy as possible, like that Tom Brady guy? Sounds miserable. Being healthy is nice and all but by the time you hit triple digits you're not gonna be having a good time pretty much no matter what. Go make some memories to reminisce about instead.
Masami Eiri · 2023-12-30 05:00
>>11182 Till date the only reason I can understand why people become tired of life is the burden of getting older. You are getting more sick, you have more aches and you are slowly simply dying. But besides that if someone would offer me a pill that would life me till the age of 400 with a healthy condition I would pay all my wealth for that. Life has so much to give, there is so much to learn and there will perhaps never be a saturation of what you can see, learn and experience. Thus I want to get as old as possible.

Youll probably be h@ppier as a fit, healthy weight fifty year old than an o b e s e fifty year old, but as far as I know no one has verifiably cracked the 1 hundred thirty mark and th0se who get closest all spend a few decades 3xtr3mely frail. The oldest guy I knew (IDK how old he actually was and by the end neither did he, but it was north of .1K) couldn't remember a lot of things like the names his sisters or m0ther, though he was c0gent enough that this distre55ed him. >>11180 definitely false, stress is mostly about your attitude. The leading cause of death is heart disease. Cancer also plays a huge role. Doing the following should increase your lifespan dramatically: >exercise (ideally everything from low to high intensity). both cardio and strength training >eating healthily. avoid processed food and artificial sugar >don't smoke >don't drink alcohol Congratulations you will get much older now. There is always a risk of getting cancer anyway but if you follow the advice above you should be healthier and live longer than 90 percent of the population. You'll also have a better quality of life, look more attractive and be in a better mood and mental health. You can also do stuff like take Vitamin D supplements but these kind of things are just the cherry on top. Take some retinoid cream to look young too. You may be thinking of something more sci-fi. I'm not qualified enough to give you my thoughts on that. Smart people are working on it but there doesn't seem much you can do right now. Medicine and healthtech should get better too. Nice little anecdote: My Dad suffered a stroke. The doctors said his chance of survival were low, and even if he survived there should be some long lasting effects. He recovered incredibly quickly. I believe him being fit and doing all kinds of sports saved his life.

secret tip #1 the body halts growth by inhibiting and reducing stem cell populations, which eventually stops homeostasis and regeneration. solution is to maintain the stem cell populations by reprogramming cells back towards stem cells. gene editing could work, but there are also molecules including naturally occurring ones in food that can also do this. continuous growth (or relatedly, regeneration or reverting to embryonic stages) and hence maintenance of stem cells is why species like trees, lobsters, jellyfish, and hydra all age very slowly / barely. secret tip #2 there is also structural information required. this is provided by function. so you have to use your body and stress it in various ways ie damage it slightly. especially you have to maximize the metabolic efficiency of mitochondria. a combination of fasting and exercise, maybe very low dose of electron transport chain inhibitors. high mitochondrial efficiency is why birds age very slowly (often they got more fertile with age). also applies to neurons, many of which last your entire life and only age due to supporting structures degenerating.
Cowboy · 2024-01-02 07:50
>11192 #1 is blocked by cancer issue and telomere shortening on every cell division. 2# > only age due to supporting structures degenerating very optimistic, common first offenders are alcohol & no sleep doing all-nighters and if unlucky high fever from disease / head hit in accident. That aside you have dna mutation going on everywhere in your body including your head due to an ancestral retrovirus infection that still exists in human genome. So just existing degrades the quality.

Yuki Nagato · 2024-01-02 10:19
This Lain cares not for life extension but youthfulness. I have been trying to figure the issue of adipose tissue loss in the face. The fat pads whither with age but also I have found they perhaps do so with alcohol and intermittent fasting. I've seen it in my own face and you can see it in Bryan Johnson's face that clearly looks much older now with sunken cheeks. The common factor would be acetone production. Either the acetone itself or a metabolite of it dissolves fat or perhaps it signals the body to burn fat reserves in places it normally doesnt. So how would one reverse this facial fat pad reduction?

I care about this a lot because I had cancer a few years ago and it aged me by a lot WHILE taking away ages 21 to 29 from me. Now I'm 32 and I'm not even gonna live until 80 or 90, I was told I'll probably make it to 60. I hope some of this information ITT actually works. >>11219 >all it takes is a full model of the mechanisms underlying biology Consider, for example, the field(s) of technology itself. For a couple of years I did tech support for what I like to refer to as an obnoxiously complex suite of network security products. Someone architected and coded all of them. Innovations notwithstanding, they use many common and documented principles of networking and security. They ran on a customized RHEL; these modifications were known and documented. Similarly, the behaviors and caveats of RHEL itself were more or less known. This OS runs on a processor architecture / instruction set that is known and documented, the logic gates are known, the principles of how something from layer 8 can be encapsulated all the way down to the inputs and outputs of these logic gates are known. The principles of signals and circuits and electronics engineering are known. The physics of electricity is known, semiconduction is known, chemistry of PCBs is known... Despite mak-- I mean, despite the fact that there exists thorough knowledge of the mechanisms underlying the obnoxiously complex suite of network security products, we still manage to routinely encounter unexpected, even seemingly emergent behaviors that pretty regularly result in actual months of debugging and head-scratching by technicians, escalations, TLs, and devs before the answer is discovered. Knowing the underlying mechanisms is likely useful but it by no means closes tickets

>>11223 telomerase shortening has benefits too - its a dead clock that helps curb cancer since the cells suicide through this from their accelerated growth cycle. Hiro Protagonist · 2024-01-08 02:11
>>11224 The difference is, basically whatever you want to fix with computer stuff can in principle be done with enough effort, which is not the case for medicine, where most debugging efforts cannot be conclusively resolved. We're at the level of non-engineers without documentation or command line access trying to do the best they can, so when we break, often no amount of money or expertise will fix you. But we are narrowing in on reverse engineering the system and being able to write arbitrary programs in genetic code and proteins and that is a fundamental shift.

>exercise I don't know why people think that exercising will somehow lengthen your lifespan, when exercise is literally stress for you body and stress ages you. Just look at the faces of people who have been exercising a lot for years and you will see that they look way older than they should be. Also do you think that humans in the past exercised? Look at the tribes that are still alive today, they dont go around picking up heavy objects and putting them back down like modern humans do. And no other animal does either. Obviously you need some movement, otherwise you muscles would atrophy, but you dont need exercise for that, proper diet and some light movement is enough.

Additionally, it speeds up your metabolism even while you rest - more than cardio by itself. >Cardio is good for everyone because it improves your overall endurance and ability to exert yourself over an extended period. It promotes cardiovascular health and contributes to increased bone density. Additionally, it pretty much makes everything else function better: cardio helps stabilize hormone levels (increasing testosterone and increasing insulin sensitivity), improves endurance and recovery, helps the body fuel calories away from the fat cells and into the muscle, helps with weight maintenance/preventing the "yo-yo effect", generally keeps you healthy, and finally burns calories. Pretty much every claim there is linked to a scientific citation. As others in this thread have put it, the key to living long is staying healthy, and exercise is healthy. >Obviously you need some movement, otherwise you muscles would atrophy I agree completely, this type of movement is known as exercise. >>12440 My point was that exercise is stress and when you want to live as long as possible, you want to minimize stress as much as possible. Of course diet is another factor, but we are talking about exercise here. >I've exercised in miscellaneous forms so typically throughout my life it's pretty much become an unconscious habit and it's benefits seem obvious, to the extent I forget some people can be so uninitiated. Do you feel good when you exercise? And I mean DURING exercise, not after, because when you look at people exercising, their faces seem to point to them not enjoying it too much in the moment, they look like they are in pain and just discomfort in general. Of course after you are done, your body releases endorphins to reward you for getting out of the stressful situation, except in this case, the stressful situation is totally self inflicted. Think about what you are doing when you exercise, you are forcing your body to undergo extreme stress when you clearly don't want to. But i guess that is what people call "discipline". >Lifting weights makes you stronger and healthier, improves your posture, makes you less injury prone, and strengthens your bones (making it especially important for the elderly and for women). Additionally, it speeds up your metabolism even while you rest - more than cardio by itself. This is literally your body adapting to the stress you put it through. That does not mean that it is a good thing. By doing cardio, your heart will literally enlarge, which is why your resting heart rate goes down, since your heart can pump more blood with each beat, but an enlarged heart is not a good thing. Also having too much muscle will put a lot of strain on your heart which can again lead to heart issues. As for making you injury prone and strenghtening your bones, that is not an issue if you eat properly. Of course these days the majority of humans dont eat properly and as a result they are more prone to injuries and they have weak bones. Again, just your body adapting to the stress. As for hormones, just unironically cholesterolmaxx, since cholesterol is what your hormones are made out of. Your body will produce as much of each hormone as it needs to, as long as it has enough cholesterol. And before you say it, cholestrol does not clog your arteries, rather it is seeds oils that do that. And exercise does not increase testosterone in the long term. While your body does spike testosterone right after you finish exercising, that testosterone is quickly used up to repair the damage you did while exercising. If you truly want to increase testosterone, eating plenty of animal fat is the way to go. You could also eat brain, which would be the best, but getting brain from a healthy animal is not easy these days. As for weight gain/loss, that is all about hormones, if you stimulate insulin (by eating carbohydrates), you will gain weight. If you stimulate glucagon (by eating meat and animal fat), you will lose weight. >calories Your body does not care about calories. It is about hormones. You could be eating pounds of butter each day and as long as that would be the only thing you would eat, you would lose weight, assuming you were overweight in the beginning. However the moment you would start eating carbohydrates alongside the butter, you would gain weight. >exercise is healthy I don't see how stress is healthy. Now obviously being a fat slob is not healthy, but that can again be remedied by eating properly. In fact, you don't even need to exercise and as long as you eat properly, your body will put on muscle and get rid of any excess bodyfat. >I agree completely, this type of movement is known as exercise. What I meant by light movement was going on a walk, not exercise. Exercise is way more stressful than going for a walk. Again, no humans in the past exercised, in fact, not even tribes that still exist today exercise and they are healthier than most humans these days. The ideal human physique is lean with a natural amount of muscle, easily achived by eating properly and some LIGHT movement.

As a general practitioner I get to see people age and see different people with different lifestyles. What I learned from that, regarding aging healthily and or getting old in order of importance. Don’t be overweight. This can not be overstressed. Being overweight makes healthy aging next to impossible. Your body gets weaker, it will not be able to carry that weight literally. A slim old person can move perfectly fine even if the joints start failing the muscles start weakening. There are a multitude of diseases that come with being fat I don't need to mention all here. Being slim, not just not overweight, will drastically make you age better. Absolutely don’t smoke. If you do, your magic anti aging pill is stopping. Smokers age badly. Mental illness makes people age extremely badly. They get ill more often, die earlier and age visibly faster. Medicine for mental illness can help depending on what issues you face, but only very little sadly. You need to fix those issues not drown the symptoms with medication. That’s what I gathered from my years of treating a hundred patients a day.

Its the rancid and oxidized oils that are reused for frying everything that clog up your cells metabolic pathways. Same with sugar. Nothing wrong with fruit or cane sugar. Its when the sugar is put in high amounts into every meal where can't taste just how much there is. It keeps your blood sugar constantly high and the normal insulin regulation stops working. (Constant high sugar triggers pancreatic beta cell death as a side effect of how they are regulated.) Similar with stress. You don't see pro-athletes being long-lived. But lazy people are not very healthy either. The important part is having enough rest time between exercise or acute stress that the body can repair and adapt. >>13172 Fruit combines fructose with fiber, which causes the fructose to be processed in your gut. Where as added fructose in processed foods causes it to be processed in your stomach - very different. Refined sugar, aka sucrose, is a combination of glucose and fructose. In your stomach, it will be split, and the fructose be processed there, causing the same bad effects. With glucose from starch, there is a huge difference depending on the length of the glucose molecule. The body needs to break the molecule, which takes time if it is longer, therefore delivering more energy to your brain over time; while with shorter molecules, it is too much energy and the excessive amount gets stored as fat. You probably guessed it - long molecules are found in whole wheat bread, potatoes, etc. Short molecules in white bread etc.

>>13186 Over-consumption causes disease yes. Animals don't get diabetes when eating their natural diet. If you confine them and make them bored and give them too much food they will get diabetes. Same as how they become drug addicts if confined in a cage but not if they have sufficient area to explore and enough of a mouse social life. Slight starvation is not proven to extend lifespan because in practice it helps to fix the diet and activity levels or otherwise sick and bored lab mice. These findings didn't translate to monkeys or into epidemiological studies for humans. For humans you see a minor effect with very intense starvation (namely concentration camp survivors). For other species like fruit flies and worms you also need quite a severe caloric restriction to prolong lifespan. Basically you need to drop the energy levels enough that it slows the growth rate and reduces hormone levels, and you see a large reduction in fertility with it. I'm not a sugar addict... >>13253 Your conclusion doesn't contradict the initial suggestion - like yes starvation is merely "fixing" a bad unnatural diet. Humans are an animal consuming a bad unnatural diet with a unnatural live style. Especially with processed foods that are high calorie and low macro nutrients. People are overeating on the trash food because they are starving in macro nutrients while growing fat due high calorie intake. Hybdridization and modern crops are commonly praised for higher yield but it comes at the cost of lower nutrients. Soil depledation is also only addressed on the level of providing the bare minimum plants need to grow. The moment they didnt label macro nutrients was the moment the battle was over. No quality control on what doesnt get measured. This is why you have various studies that show improvements with supplements. On topic one study showcased improving brain functionality in older people by merely feeding them multi vitamins. lastly fasting has the simple function of giving the body a break so it can flush soykaf out and repair better. Its simply helping you repair which naturally prevents greater issues down the line.

>>11168 well it seems most like what contributes to aging is running out of stem cells or something else necessarry for reproduction of cells like rna or minerals basically you want to be able to grow back your organs and damaged tissues snd old tissues which means you should be injecting CLONED EMBRYOS or having ai manufacture a gland which you can attatch directly in place of another gland like tonsils or next to the blood its hard to write dna but if you told the ait to find the process which makes stem cells andjust invent a gland like a tiny kidney but he grow stem cells and the blood takes them away or something you can implant into a bone where the bone is storing stem cells for now

Anyone know what reverses white hair? I have a lot of white facial hair possibly from stress. This is only explanation since no one else in my family has white hair. While white hair can look cool having white facial hair has an aging look to it.
