The helmet is just the vessel. The hard part is the software/hardware. What sensors will you use? What will be the power source? What will be the processor. What functionality do you expect?
Will you have it connect to the internet or work off internal memory? What will the display be? Will you use a transparent OLED, a reflected HUD, or perhaps a VR style passthrough view? How will the wiring be distributed? How will you control the helmet while wearing it?
Until you have most of these questions worked out, all you will be doing with that helmet is cosplaying.

Aren't all these cosplay to begin with? They don't serve a practical purposes.

A good starting point.
How would Lain build her cyber helmet?
I'm not OP and I have no answer for a functional cyber helmet, only that i think the idea is cool and I like to entertain the idea. I'd like to know what OP wants out of it...
I have nothing of input other than I got reminded of that one time Zack Freedman documented his whole journey hacking an Epson display glasses. (Moverio BT-40) Maybe one could use his experience as a blueprint to mod the same thing on a bigger transparent OLED to slap on a helmet.
Only for the cheap price of 800$ US! What a bargain, am I right? ...Anyone?
Mario Rossi · 2023-03-22 16:13
so i can't make anything cool like plug my mask into a computer why is real world tech so lame and gay?

Ay, You could.
If you DIY it, 100% plausible. If it's a helmet that already has a display in it, you'll have to embark on your own hacking journey on that one... or just say screw the already installed display and make your own anyway.
I mean, all you need is a display and a way to connect it to your pc, eh? stick a display, wire it to HDMI/Displayport/whatever the fuarrrk I/O that's on ur PC and the world is your oyster.

you cant fit a display in those things

cellphones are tiny high res displays, you idiot sticking a display into a helmate is as easy as some duck tape.

Display is just a general term for anything that can "display" an image, Of course i'm not expecting you to fit an entire monitor up your helmet lmao

Found some cheap flexible oled displays that claim to be transparent supposedly this page is for a 5 inch display but the images i see dont really look transparent. What does Lain think? Min order is only one piece but seems this site is geared toward companies being there is a company field in contact so may be a good idea to have a bogus company when making orders?

>cyber helmets are not common
>LED clothing is not common
What an awful future. Why did you people do this? ALl the lains on this website contributed to this. Or should I say didnt contribute to anything ever.

>all this whining
And yet you have no merch of your own to show off.
"Be the change you want to see in the world" phrase didn't get passed onto newer generations I see.

yeah idk lainon. marketing on it is all over the place. but hey, can't go wrong with 1.20$ a piece. so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
in the worst cases, you can still resell or use the piece in other projects.

Aside from being "cool", is there any practical use for a "cyber" helmet? Personally, I don't like the idea of having a bright OLED screen 1-2 inches away from my eyes, that just sounds painful. Most if not all kinds of displays will fuarrrk with your eyes.
This all sounds like a larp to me, to be honest. I'm guessing there's probably some very niche use-case for it, but for the average person it doesn't sound like a good investment to make.

Eh. not really? Unless its for cosplaying/larp. I guess it would be nice to have a cyber helmet if you ride a bike, but personally i would be better off buying a proven product than making my own. Useful for when you really need to keep an eye on data/info, but these scenarios are out of my imagination.

Do you go outside in your cyber helmet and LED clothing, or do you sit around inside in your VR helmet and non-LED underwear all day like the rest of us? We took the dystopia route a long time ago.
That said, I had a friend a few years back with a fancy motorbike helmet that projects a heads up display onto your visor and has integrated cameras (Including rear view camera so you can never be assailed from behind). It was this thing:

The videos have been removed from youtube and their website is gone. Guess they had legal troubles. Cool helmet regardless.

i think the idea is that its an AR wearable rather than a screen
