Hey Lains. This is my DX, it's an old EEPROM drum machine. I'm just ordered a board to make it midi compatible (it's *that* old). I've half a mind to try my hand at modding it or programming my own EEPROM instrument banks for it. My experience so far with making instruments has only extended to a two voice oscillator and an 8-step sequencer.
For a while I've been mulling over getting some of these DIY kits from MFOS http://musicfromouterspace.com/
Have you ever built or modified an electronic instrument, or even something acoustic?

I have plans to make a sort of upright bass/electric cello kind of deal out of some wood and old bass guitar parts, but it's moving kind of slowly right now.
I've always had a mind to mess with things like this, but my knowledge of electronics isn't good enough to do anything without breaking it. Picking up old "Speak N Spells" from the local Goodwill and trying to wire an audio out port is the current goal, if I can find one that actually works...
You should post some stuff you make with that DX in one of the /music/ threads!

I have not, but this post inspired me to give it a shot. I have always wanted to work with some of the older sound generators from the 80s-90s. I just ordered a few YM2149Fs, which were used in the Atari ST.
I'm going to make a MIDI controller once winter break starts. I still haven't decided if I want to use an actual MIDI cable or just use MIDI over USB AB.
I have a lot of Atmel chips (328P) laying around so I will probably use one of those along with an FT232RL.
I will post pictures once I get started.>>735

I used to try to make primitive industrial instruments using old headphones as pickups but everything made pretty much the same sound. This was a long time ago.

Yeah... kinda. Nothing too impressive.
>Pulled the frets out of one of my guitars
>Replaced the low E string on another guitar with the top string for a bass and set up the neck and action to make it work right(ish).
>Taped piezo pickups to fuarrrking everything.
>Built a few fuzz stomp boxes. Some from kits, others custom clones.
>Coded misc. software instruments/noise generators... if that counts.
I'm interested in this thread. I really like this era of digital music gear.
