Living in storage

BloodCat · 2017-10-14 13:24
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPVCTLPNUzo This is a bit cyberpunk, but kind of half-assed. It seems like a dumb idea for ventilation, legality, plumbing and power reasons. It's hard to believe no-one saw this guy going in and out, or his big-ass power cord. And how did he take a dump? If you can't take a dump it's not a house.

>>688 van life is probably a much more liable way of living, cheaper too

Who in their right mind goes to lengths including a surround system of all things in their jerryrigged suspension shelfing but can't be assed to get a proper white extension lead? Nothing quite inconspicuous than a power cable plastered with white tape leading to a bent-open doorframe with a GSM antenna inside its desk socket sticking out like a sore thumb. http://www.insideselfstorage.com/blogs/iss-blog/2017/01/selfstorage-squatters-uncovering-and-booting-livein-tenants-before-they-get-comfortable.aspx >Officials say as soon as staff discovered 0007craft was living in the unit, he was given the boot. The eviction came two months before the video was posted to YouTube. >"U-Haul has procedures in place to detect anyone attempting to break the law and live in a storage locker/unit," company spokesman Jeff Lockridge told “CBC News.”

>>690 Not to mention, who with the resourcefulness to rig half that stuff up in the first place could not leap the next mental hurdle and find other cheap accommodations with less watchful eyes on him?

>>723 The point is, it took some creativity and knowledge to rig that up, a lot more than just living in a squat with a hobo stove or something. People spend money to store their belongings in those places, they are going to be suspicious of any unusual activity. It seems like a poor location to apply that ingenuity.

>>691 >>726 this. i can think of plenty of places that are cheaper, more stable, and more comfortable than a storage locker. just off the top of my head: >my car >a tent >the abandoned warehouse down the street >a camping trailer >a soykafty residence motel >one of my friends' basements >prison

>>725 Welcome to family estrangement or just flat-out dead relatives. Not everyone has that option. Try again. >>740 What kind of prisons are there in your country? Seriously, that's weird they'd be more comfortable than squatting in some random concrete block.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2017-11-12 17:34
>>740 Prison?! Unless you enjoy being tortured by the state I'd cross that one off your list

>>742 >>741 Prisons in Scandinavia are nicer than low income housing or mental hospitals in America.

>>741 >>742 Scandinavian prisons are comfy because they're not focused on making prisoners feel like soykaf, but rather on making prisoners unlikely to be repeat offenders by closely mimicking non-prison life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVZ6IICLMZs Even some minimum security prisons in other first-world countries are fairly comfortable. Many have cell phone access, internet access, and the like. Although some countries charge their inmates for each day they're in prison

>>746 > Even some minimum security prisons in other first-world countries are fairly comfortable. I heard a guy speaking from within San Quentin Prison in California where he's serving a life sentence, who said he'd never used the internet in his whole life but has seen pictures of it in a magazine. He was really impressed by this concept of having a "phone" in your pocket that actually a tiny computer but had never touched one.

>>741 >>742 the storage cube is basically a prison cell without the heat, bathroom, or free meals. i guess most people value their freedom more than their comfort but that wasn't really my point.
Ivan Horvat · 2017-11-14 06:21
>>740 >prison I get that this was probably bait but in what world is being assraped more comfortable than playing metal gear IRL daily?
Haruyoshi · 2017-11-14 19:56
>>751 That doesn't happen everywhere. It's even been curbed in some prisons in the US. Not to say it can't happen ANYWHERE though as it can happen outside prison too.

Lived in a van for a year in a half. Home bummed it and had a storage unit worked full time. Had a 5x10 storage unit as a sort of lounge. Book shelves, a pantry for extra food. A writing desk Kept the stuff that made van living easier during the summer stored during the winter and vice versa. Thats your best option if you ask me. They watch these places like hawksHave cameras out the ass. Plus you have to keep quiet all the time.
