Do any fellow Lains know how to get into horticulture?
I'm currently interested in learning how to grow herbs and otherwise pretty plants in my apartment
Future applications of this knowledge would be useful for growing my own food in a garden off the grid or some hydroponics indoors to grow plants during the winter or when it would be otherwise inopportune to grow in local conditions
Is there anybody here with a reasonably green thumb who wants to point me in some sort of direction

Ask your Mom.
Seriously though, mothers of a certain age (45+) typically at least have some plant knowledge. Mine is constantly doing stuff with houseplants during the winter and flowers outside in the spring/summer. It all really depends on how far you want to take it, the basics are quite easy. Personally I would just start with a few easy to maintain plants (cactus and the snake plant in your image are pretty hard to kill unless you do something extremely wrong in my experience) and work your way from there as your confidence grows.
I do not know of any resources myself, but my mother these days uses youtube for reference and inspiration as well as a few physical books.
All else fails you could always ask someone who's growing marijuana, they know their soykaf.

>Ask your Mom.
I would, but then she'd know about my interest in plants and i'd never hear the end of it
She's a master gardener and such

>my mom is great at the hobby i want to pick up but don't want to ask for advice because she will be interested in my life
just ask her man.

Both my parents are dead. You should appreciate what you have while you have it.

You know nothing about the OP's mother, she could very well be vastly different than your mother.

Assess the situation and don't be scared to ask your mother. If you decide on not asking your mother, you can find the answers on the internet easily, this is a massive medium.

>uhhh, nothing

Why do so many of the posts on this site use such wanky language?
>horticulture
>currently interested
>future applications of this knowledge
>otherwise inopportune
To answer your question though, fill a pot with dirt and stick some seeds in it. Keep it moist and give it some sun.

>or some hydroponics indoors
I literally just dropped an onion bulb into a glass of water and put it in a window last week. It's doing pretty well.

My mom grew up on a farm and has a massive garden. It's pretty sweet. I keep taking her tomatoes. (Now she's trying to grow a lemon tree, in the fall, in Wisconsin.)

Just bite the bullet and ask. It'll be something you can do together. She's not getting any younger you know. You might not be able to do things with her for much longer.

Tomatoes?
