Anybody here make there own shirts? Would love to talk to someone whose had experience and would just like to share.
The Phantom Phreak · 2017-06-04 13:49
I have sewn a few shirts in the past, I like the production aspect of fashion, But it always seems to be more expensive than ready wear mass produced stuff, so price is limiting. As for making personalized shirts, I dont really know, but I am sure that there are plenty of ways to stencil and paint onto shirt. I would probably use a latex paint and stencil it lightly onto the fabric with a sheet of plastic in between the front and back. Latex paint really doesn't wash out of the clothing, so it could be a long lasting way of making a design. the stenciling could be accomplished using a cutout of the shapes you want done one color at a time. you can splatter paint on lightly by brushing over a piece of wire mesh or tapping a brush to give it a nice splatter.

>>229 Proper screen printing is achievable at home but there's certainly lots of equipment needed like emulsions and mesh. >>232 Do they sell well?

>>232 Do you illustrate all the designs yourself?

Been trying to find a good source (in this hemisphere) for bulk shirts. And bamboo socks, but dealing with China is a hassle, and that wasn't the question anyway. My sewing skills are only rudimentary. I do a lot of tie dyeing (arashi shibori probably being my favorite technique) but also a variety of other textile projects. Got a few folks I get my printing done from, as I don't have that whole multicolor setup.

I' ve wanted to print my own designs onto backpacks and sweaters but I don't know what the cheapest way of doing that is.
The Oracle · 2017-06-15 14:43
>>305 Heat press vinyl would prob be a good/cheap solution It'll stay on there real good, and if you can source a machine, the actual printing shouldn't cost much at all.
Arisu Mizuki · 2017-06-15 14:44
>>284 That's a cool pattern, how did you get into dyeing?
Bob Arctor · 2017-06-18 18:36
>>337 I got into dyeing having seen some of what the real masters of the art could pull off and desiring at some point over the years to attain that level. Also, I realized when getting into it that it was a hobby which could pay for itself and not just be a money sink. I work in the sheet metal trade, but always have a few irons in the fire of work gets slow. Learning to replicate results is rewarding as well.

>>350 >what the real masters of the art could pull off I love how these tie-dyed shirts look! However, growing up in a culture where these are absolulety unknown and nonexistent, I'd love to see some expert examples of them. Care to post your favourites?
Masami Eiri · 2017-06-19 04:31
>>351 Here is an example of a living master. A Russian artist, Timofey Malyarov.
Dr. X · 2017-06-19 04:40
>>351 This is a piece done by another living master, Josh Shep, whose father, Bob, was a fairly skilled dyer in his own right. He is an American artist, from California.

Can I avoid the painting degradation due the washing this kind of shirts?
Arisu Mizuki · 2017-06-21 20:19
>>372 Always wash and iron shirts inside out. That helps to preserve soykaf better, in general, although it will eventually fade a little bit. It also depends heavily on how good the cotton/tshirt material is, and what was used on it. Most cheap nylon/cotton hybrids are soykaf for preserving vynil prints in my experience.

>>305 Silk screen printing is pretty affordable and truly DIY. You'll maybe be limited by your artistic ability, but the end result will be a unique shirt that only you could of made. Some friends did this and I was very pleased with the results. Pic related, made this post because I happened to be wearing the shirt.
Nos · 2017-10-05 20:08
>>227 is pic related your shirt. because i really like it where could i pick one up
Leto Atreides I · 2017-10-05 21:24
>>671 I sell them online, shipping is quite pricey unfortunately, but if you're interested, I can relist it on my webstore. this is the link emvystudio.bigcartel.com
John Rain · 2017-10-05 21:28
>>653 your artistic ability has nothing to do with it really. If you can design anything (or print it out) in a stencil version (per color), you can expose it on to a screen and run that. What your friends must have done is paint the actual design on to the screen, right? With the emulsion/emulsion remover? I do want to try that out.
Jens Hansen · 2017-10-05 21:30
>>356 >>355 >>350 >>284 this stuff is pretty fantastic. I'm planning on bleaching a design with a stencil soon. Have you done anything like that?
